I dont want to be "that guy" but here i am looking for access to the Crestron software.

I have been a AMX programmer for 20+ years, however we are currently rethinking our control offerings.

The lack of handheld remotes in the AMX lineup has basically excluded it from our residential side. We use RTI for residential but we have been needing to get creative to allow RTI to handle some of our larger more complex jobs.

I have read the language reference guide and some of the other documentation but for me there is nothing like actually hands on trial.

Any Crestron dealer willing to help out another "Pro" and dropbox the software or give me short term credential to the dealer site?

If not I understand, I will call Monday to see if I can get temp access set up
but I have the weekend free and would like to dig into it.

PM me if you can help

Thanks

Reality check:
If someone posted a nearly identical message but was asking for AMX software or a short term credential, would you help out another "Pro" and dropbox the software to them?

If you did that and AMX found out about it, what would be the repercussions to your livelihood?

We've all seen both sides of this difficulty, and it's worth getting your take if the shoe were on the other foot.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Watch some Crestron simpl programming video on YouTube to get the gist of it.

If you like it then follow the same procedure you did for AMX

I would take a look at the specific situation,

if it was a end user that had no clue what they were getting into or wanted to bypass their dealer- No

If it was a Pro looking to do a take over for a paying customer and understanding the learning curve we are talking about, Probably not.

thats not going to end well for either the pro or the customer.

I understand that my situation obviously calls for a level of trust that i am not lying and want the software for a take over but it was worth a shot.

I don't typically have a ton of free time to explore rabbit holes like this and a good chunk of time freed up this weekend, I spent last night reading the documentation and now want to get my hands dirty so to speak.

if i can get a jump on it great. If not i will call on Monday and talk with them about getting credentials, My business partner has already been in discussions with them so we know about the opening order and have been told were in if we want it, but unfortunately he kinda jumped the gun without consulting with me. He is not a programmer so he didn't think about the learning curves involved.

Learned AMX while working for another company that was a AMX shop.

when I formed my business it waspainless to get the dealership since i had already been a AMX programmer for years at that point.

I am not worried about SIMPL, far more interested in the SIMPL+ side of it.

I was asking about exactly your situation. I don't see why you need to give multiple answers.

My business partner has already been in discussions with them so we know about the opening order and have been told were in if we want it, but unfortunately he kinda jumped the gun without consulting with me. He is not a programmer so he didn't think about the learning curves involved.

Some lessons are pretty hard learns. Sorry you're in this mess, but Monday will help. I first learned this kind of lesson with a company that wanted $50,000 per year to service a client who moved into a house with a whole-house AMX system. We, of course, could not take it over as we didn't have any of the programming files. We would have found someone who did AMX if we could have.

Its OK

he didn't sign anything, just started the discussion.

we discussed the problems we are facing with the current lineup and he went out and made the call, told me we can get Crestron if we want it and then left me where i am now, trying to figure out how big of a pain in the ass its going to be if we switch.

Saw the writing on the wall a few years ago that i would likely be switching at some point but kept hoping it would resolve itself.

If you can program AMX, then Simpl+ should be the least of your concerns. Simpl will take you a lot longer to get your head around.

I had it on my personal laptop after I parted ways with my last employer, and it allowed me to carry on since they don't have activation keys or anything like that.  Since then, I've helped a programmer who lives hours away with maintenance on systems that are local to me, for those odd times when he needs on-site support.  Quid pro quo.

I suspect that most people aren't trying too hard to get Crestron software these days, since it's a real pain in the ass to learn on your own (and the switch to smart graphics didn't help). I've seen about a half dozen people who have entered the industry in the last 3-5 years start with Savant or C4, think they're a 'programmer', try Crestron and quickly say, "I think I'm going to focus on programming lighting systems instead."

XD

Why not just use RTI remotes with AMX? I do it all the time.

Why not just check to see if a local certified programmer is available?

He could help you out for sure!

I've just finished crestron foundation of programming class 5 hours ago in Vegas. I must say that programming is something else! I did this class because we need to, as a company, to be able to open Crestron. In the future, I will hire a certified programmer to do the programming. It will be way easier!

Good luck in your search!

Because i don't want to use a third party programmer,

I have been an AMX programmer for over 20 years. I know their will be a learning curve but it will be nowhere near the learning curve of self learning the AMX programming language on a borrowed computer because I had never owned one up till then.

I spoke with the Crestron rep and I am waiting on some paperwork that will allow us to get the software before signing the full dealership agreement.
