They pair one remote at a time.
I regularly set up restaurants with DirecTV remotes set to operate more than one receiver via RF. And I set up a second such remote in case the first one gets beered.
The new gray remotes might indeed pair with the new client receivers, but I'd never see this in a commercial environment. But the white DirecTV remotes are one-way devices when set up properly, and the remote is set to operate receiver(s) without anything custom happening in the receiver.
I say "the right way" because the setup mode where you enter your model number does seem to do some two-way something that might lock the receiver to the remote. Look at Post 9 at
