anyone used a pcmcia to serial adapter for htm remotes and yamaha rxv2400/2500? Was wondering if this would replace my collection of usb to serial adapters needed for sonance keypads, yamaha and htm remotes.

One of our dell laptops does not have a seriel port, so we purchased a PCMCIA to seriel port adaptor. It works great but it lags when switching programs. When we are using it for xantech stuff, we have to wat about 15 seconds before trying to use it for HTM. I find it annoying.

They also make them with detachable dongles and in dual or quad configurations. I prefer the ruggedized, non-detachable type.

My trusty old quad model works fantastic on HTMs and the early Prontos. Can't tell you about the Yamaha though.

Have used them for years and years. Connect reliably and quickly to just about everything I've came across. GPS units, terminal servers, Tektronix/HP test gear, all kinds of central office and headend supervisory ports.

On the minus side, they cost a pretty penny.
