I'm looking for a new laptop. I notice the go to operating system on Dell's site is 7 Professional. My current laptop has 7 Professional on it and it works great. I have heard 10 sucks from a lot of people. The companies I work with are Universal remote including Total Control, Crestron, Lutron, Vantage, Panasonic phone systems, Ubiquiti, and some RTI and LiteTouch. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have no issues with W10. Elan, RTI, Lutron RA2, SCT, etc etc.
Just recently got my hands on a MS Surface Pro 4 and I love being able to go into tablet mode and walking around a house troubleshooting. Just today I was having issues enrolling a Yale lock into a VeraEdge ZWave. Having the tablet in hand at the front door was great. Its also nice for enrolling Lutron.

Windows 10 here. Clean install. Everything works as well as Windows 7 did for me. I have no issues with it other than Cortana turning on every once in a while.
One feature i love thats pretty silly in the grand scheme of things...the airplane mode button. It a faster way to disconnect from wifi and reconnect.

I've had no issues with Win10 on my old 1080p laptop. I also have a new Dell XPS 15 w/4k touch display; unless you absolutely need it, I recommend NOT getting a laptop with a 4k display. If software doesn't fully support UHD resolutions, Windows 10 attempts to scale things and seriously messes up interfaces. Other than that, I've had no issues. Even some software, specifically Adobe Acrobat, still hasn't sorted out their scaling issues.

Is that an issue with the laptop's display driver, what graphics chip set does your laptop use?

It is my understanding that older Lutron software (Interactive & Illumination) won't work on 10.

If you just need to have Win7 for a piece of software here and there, you can always a use a virtual machine and install Win7 on that, and only bring it up when you need it.
Anyhoo, I'm using Win10 on my development machine and Surface (3), and it's been fine for me so far.
