Ignorant question:

What are the advantages, if any, of being a Mac user and getting Apple TV? Or of not being a Mac user and getting Apple TV? Or asked the other ways around concerning other streaming devices and PCs or Macs?

I mean... is there any correlation between the applicity or nonapplicity of your streaming device, based on whether you use a PC or a Mac?

Thanks.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The obvious feature is Airplay. Macs have it built-in, PCs do not.

Besides that the only compelling thing I can think of is that in general it is easier to share media off a Mac compared to a PC, although they technically have the same capabilities assuming the PC has iTunes

Apple TV automatically ties into your iTunes music and movie purchases and also ties into icloud photos on Apple TV. Not a huge deal, but if the mac customer has purchased a lot of movies on iTunes, it's obviously beneficial.

AppleTV would be my choice most of the time *except more folks do Amazon Prime videos - A-TV won't. So I use more Roku when possible.

AirPlay is cool with Apple devices - showing off photos, mirroring your device...

I use a PC, an ipad and ATV. In reality the ATV is never used. Sure sometimes I stream pictures up on the tv. Mirroring ipad, well for me its useless and looks bad. Kid like to play around with it a little.

iCloud+AppleTV is the best way to see nude photos of your friends and neighbors when you are over at their place and they keep the movie paused too long.

Only advantage is OSX can use AirPlay for everything as it is a system service while Windows can only use AirPlay via iTunes or 3rd part software that just barely works.

Both OS can use iTunes, iCloud and HomeSharing in iTunes.

Other than that Apple TV really doesn't care if you have a computer at all, it just cares if you have an iTunes account.

I keep wanting to buy an Apple TV because we use a Mac Mini as a home PC, and it would be nice to be able to Airplay videos. Now, I just unplug it, move it to the living room, and plug it in there. It is not that much of a PITA, but $69 sounds well worth it to me. I figure over the course of a year, it might save me an hour of moving the Mac around the house. :)

Other than that, it is a useless black box. I even gave my Roku away to a friend because we never used it anymore. We have an old TivoHD we use for recording ATSC. And the Xbox One does everything else we need....aside from the above, which technically is doable via PLex or other apps, but not nearly as simple as Airplay would be. And since I am lazy, simple wins. :)

For my clients, I generally ask them if they are "Apple people". If they say yes, and then answer no to using Amazon, then they get Apple TV. Anyone else gets recommended a Roku.
