I have a 3 month old installation with a DirecTV 4K Client (Don't recall specific model, but it's the same size as H25), 2M Ethereal MHY series cable and Sony XBR-55X850D flat panel. No other sources connected.
After 3 months of working, the Genie client now displays a message something like "HDMI Cable not authorized, switch to component cable." Client has rebooted Genie and client, etc. to no avail.
Anyone suddenly seeing a problem with 4K clients...? Wondering about a firmware push that changed or broke something. Otherwise, I wonder if the HDMI cable has been damaged.
TIA for any experience with this error.

TIA for any experience with this error. Articulated mount or static? If articulated, I would want to know if the end was stressed and damaged. Has anyone moved the AVR?

It's on a motorized lift that I installed and dressed. There are no stress points on cable, and everything is tied down with confortable bend radius, etc. so nothing SHOULD have happened to cable, but it's possible.

I have this vague memory of the 4K nightmare Lunch and Learn.
Jeff B. was saying that the new spec included a 'accumulated errors' piece that would possibly make a working but marginal install stop working with HDCP 2.2.

Sadly this is the first place to look, having said that. Check all products for an update and then disconnect the power cable from them all for 15 mins (any DirecTV update can cause issues).

I'll tell ya, ya gotta love a product that tells you to use a cable that (I believe) it's illegal to use. This just reveals, once more, the stupidity of the entire HDMI fiasco.
Before you check for updates on the satellite receiver, look up the date of the software. If it was a few days ago, that's a big hint, though sadly it's not the answer.

Pretty sure there are no LAWS on the books that makes it illegal to use a component cable. I have a few lying around here, should I expect a knock on the door from the po po?

The biggest irony in this case [aside from the bare-bones simplicity of this particular installation] is that the 4K client does not have a YPrPb video output... I'm not sure what I hope is wrong with it. If the cable snagged somewhere, I just hope it didn't do damage to the TV input...;-(

That DTV message is a typo. It should have said that component image can't be displayed and to switch to HDMI. I've dealt with that when DTV started locking out HBO on component cables few years ago. We contacted them and they were suppose to update the text of the message -- I guess they forgot.

But this client does not offer a YPrPb output...Not understanding how the client could be attempting to output signal to a physical output it does not have...?
