The only constant in our industry in this day and age is that anything can happen to cause a perfectly functioning system to not work the way it used to.

At any give time the cable provider could have done an update disabling dual multi-channel output (or in rare cases changing they audio output format)

IF its an older integra 2-7 years, its probably the Integra as they have a very high defect rate with their HDMI board as the power supply is located directly below it and melts the solders when it heats up causing pre-mature failures.

Also note, that just because your Boss has been in this industry for 20 years A) doesn't mean they know everything B) may not be fully up to date on all the various weird problems we encounter; and the fact that he dismissed it means he should already know what's wrong...and if not he's some what arrogant.

This site is a great resource to eliminate Head meet Wall scenario's; and you've presented yourself well which goes a long way with us. Good luck and I look forward to hearing what your resolution is.

Thanks for your input boss. We still haven't come up with the solution, BUT, the cable guy gave us some crucial information that most everyone here might want to know. Or, at least, in the South East. Flooding in Louisianna took out some Cox facilities, wiped out all their equipment. So, out of dire need, they've been taking Contour 1 boxes and just giving them firmware upgrades to try and turn them into Contour 2 boxes. They've been having problems with it. So, the cable box could be the problem. Meeting the cable guy again tomorrow.

When the problem gets solved I definitely will post the solution, as it could come in handy to who knows who else in the future.

Oh yeah, thanks for the Integra info about the HDMI problems. I'd skimmed over the fact that they had been having HDMI board problems, but the information you provided will make it stick. Could be a good thing to know in the future.

Also, the Integra is a (Well, both of them are) DRX-2 if anyone was wondering.

DRX-2 is brand new and not part of the HDMI problem series.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Cables boxes. I mentioned in the above post about how a lot of Cox equipment was destroyed by flooding in Lousianna and they were scrambling to piece things together but it wasn't working. Well, that was apparently the cause of our problem.

Today, Cox came back out to address the issue of the three Contour client boxes not working. (They worked at first when they were installed but on the next visit, dead). He replaced them with new boxes. So, that's three bad boxes so far. Next, he replaced the main Contour unit because we were having the audio problem. Audio problem from that box was now solved. So, that's four total bad boxes. Setting up the client boxes, going through the motions, only one of them would work, so he went back to the truck and got 2 more new boxes. They finally work (at least today). That's a total of 6 bad boxes replaced today while there are only four of them in the rack! So....yeah, out of ten boxes total, only four of them worked properly. Sheesh!

But, at least now everything in the rack is working as it should. Good thing too, as they want to move in (way too early) on Friday and we're supposed to be there to set up their apps and show them how everything works. Remotes, apps, security, surveillance, SONOS, room to room intercom system, can opener, microwave...
Everyone should learn something new every day.
