Hello AV world!!!

Straight to the point; we recently purchased this tv for a client great pic, high price.. (Great client)Well the tv randomly turns itself off.. I've replaced the tv and all components that come with it. The one connect the cable you name it.. I have a URC Mx-980 And a Crestron iPad app we use to control the power of the tv: meaning two Ir sensors on the tv.. I've never setup any timers and rechecked also.. I've turned off all Eco and sleep timers within tv also.. I have replaced the surge protector that powers up the tv too..

I've done some pretty custom jobs with multiple tv's and never got my but kicked like this.. Therefore i finally decided to post my 1st struggle with a tv!!!

Any suggestions is appreciated

Suhd ks9800 Samsung 65"

There was a version of firmware that wreaked havoc with Samsung displays. This was several months ago though.

As for 2 emitters on the display, Xantech makes a nice solution:

I have had several issues with the 9800's I have touched. No thank you. Can you take it back to the vendor?

I have updated software on the tv and replaced it.. Thanks for input on sensors.. I wonder if it will work .. The reason I have two was because the 1st system that was similar a year ago with a mrf-350 URC and a Cp3 Crestron processor with 1 sensor looped, it would not allow control from Crestron even reversing the polarity. I'll try those and see Thanks

...Thanks for input on sensors.

They aren't sensors, they are emitters. In a world where those would be called sensors, your eyes would emit light and bulbs would detect the light levels in a room.

But hey, there are folks who call sensors "eyes" and then call the emitters "eyes"!

That recommended Xantech product is a great answer to the occasional two-LED need.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Dont let him get to you, Most on the site just pass right over his posts...its sad because he does have experience, just finds the need to correct everyone and miss the actual question in doing so

Not a fan of the Samsungs- stopped selling them a while ago- but ton the newer Sony's, after a firmware update, they added an "inactivity timer" that shuts off the TV after a set time. In their menu system, you can change the timing or turn off the "feature". Don't know if Samsung has that, but worth a try. Or bad CEC from the cable/Say box. Turn off all HDMI control features.

Perfect response!

You could get an older Crestron gateway and have the 980 work through the Crestron CP3 therefor only needing 1 IR emitter on the TV.

CNRFGWA for 433mhz or the CNRFGWA-418 for 418mhz.

Is it maybe a CEC issue with a connected device?

This could be some sort of CEC issue. What is a typical time interval between these random events? You could try connecting only one box to the TV. (Multiple boxes connected to a receiver that is then connected to the TV is not "one box" for the purpose of this experiment). I'd be looking for a box that announced to CEC that it was shutting down and the TV responded to this inappropriately.

There is a "feature" associated with some of the FIOS cable boxes that makes me nervous. After an interval of inactivity, they'll shut down. I haven't observed this causing any trouble for my installs, but I can't rule out that this shutdown could create some sort of CEC event. So far it has only been an annoyance that requires an extra Menu button press to "wake" the cable box -- that had to be already awake in order to recognize an IR command and issue the message.

Hi Guys!

Thanks for all the input.. Also thanks for the info on our Emitter buddy.. From what I've heard he reminds me of a very good buddy who I usually call when I'm in a pinch with home automation/ custom AV installs.. He understands the proper terms / wording and everything about a product in and out and knows how to properly troubleshoot to determine the problem but fails to realize everyone isn't as bright as you.. These are the guys you want to keep as a installer and never see them leave the industry ..

** I'm going back to the job on Friday yea a Friday of course.. The customer is saying that she has narrowed the tv turning off to only happening when watching the (xfinity X-1 )live tv or pre- recorded. I've never experienced this!! The previous tv was a Samsung also. All I did was upgrade the tv .

We are starting to see more issues with HDMI ports on cable box's causes random problems. The preliminary indications are that spurious voltage is traveling down the HDMI cable from the STB to the display. This can cause the above issue or lock up the display until there is a power cycle.
