So is it safe to say, to get any 4k@60fps 4:4:4 - fiber will be the only way to go?

It looks like there are several options that work over category cable (Just Add Power, Atlona) but they rely on varying levels of compression to do it.

I started a thread a couple weeks ago trying to find a solution for projects where I'd installed conduit over the last 1-2 years and now looking for a 4k@60 4:4:4 solution to pull in.

For this "Cottage", is a distributed HDMI setup necessary?
You really need to get to find what they are going to use and how. Budget ?
I don't see the need if a cable box, OTA and maybe streaming is the source of
television entertainment.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

No code and no inspection doesn't mean that using best practice from the NEC won't prove to be helpful and prevent headaches later, like ruining an expensive HDMI because I put too many turns in and made the pull impossible.

Flex conduit to each TV sounds like a good idea.

Craig.

It not so much that distributed HDMI is needed. In the first cottage I put the equipment for the main room in the basement so it would be out of the way. The need is for a long HDMI and readiness for 4K upgrades in the future.

Conduit between your TV and wherever you want to put the equipment. If the equipment is in a location that requires a bunch of 90's then take conduit from the TV location to the basement and from the equipment to the basement. Then you can drop your cable down at the TV end and manually route it to the second conduit and up to the equipment.

Don't rely on Cat5/6 or even Fiber. Just put the conduit in and find an HDMI cable that will work like the EHD-HD25M [Link: metrahometheater.com] that can do around 80 feet.

Agreed. This will be the plan.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Why would you put in a active cable at this point?

Not sure I will be. My plan is to educate about 4K and HDMI, run the HDMI that they want to pay for, but that AT LEAST works with what they are planning now, and put in a conduit to accommodate future upgrades plus a bunch of cat6 and coax.

I feel like that plan will allow my customer to best choose what suits their current needs and budget, and allow them to plan for the future.

Until now I've commonly done conduit from basement to attic and conduit from media room displays to the rack, but not a whole house. I'm a little late to conduit party here, but I feel like it's time to make it a standard feature. With helpful info here about conduit I'm looking forward to offering that as a solution for all of the TVs in the house.

Thanks again guys.
