Thanks! Unfortunately none of those worked. URC tech support was surprisingly disinterested and not very helpful as well.
People here have told us to quit selling the MX850, so it's no surprise that URC isn't interested in the latest problem with them.
I was given this advice despite the fact that I was modifying a customer's existing remotes, not selling him a thing. I was advised (here) to sell him three remotes when they needed a change of TV brands and nothing more.
