Installed basic Samsung TV and Sonos Playbar setup today with DirecTV. I had the TV and DirecTV box powered off and was trying to demo just the music throught the Playbar, but the Sonos app kept trying to jump to TV audio as if the TV was sending an audio signal. Checked the optical cable going into the Playbar which is showing red even though the TV was powered off. WTF? I've never noticed this before but maybe it's standard. Anyway, turned off HDMI CEC in the TV, and no more optical light out with TV off. Not sure what this would be for in terms of HDMI control. Maybe it's some kind of extra communication to Samsung soundbars.

Maybe including a MODEL NUMBER would make things clear. For instance, the
Samsung - 3.1-Channel Soundbar System with Wireless Subwoofer - Black

Model: HW-K550/ZA
is a SAMSUNG PLAYBAR. There are others.

Aren't you guys tired of me referring you to my signature?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Unclench Ernie (did I spell that right). It was a typo. NOT a Samsung Playbar - a Samsung TV (newer model 43" UN43KU7000) and a Sonos Playbar.

As far as I'm concerned, leaving out the model number is a typo.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

That is actually very interesting to me, because I recently set up a Samsung feeding audio into a Sonos connect amp. Usually when the audio appears at the connect amp input terminals, it can be set to automatically switch to that line input. In this case I wasn't able to make that happen, and I presumed it was because the digital output was remaining on. I may try to turn the HDMI CEC off next time I am at that project.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
