Hey Guys,

Not sure if this is the best place for this but you guys are always a great resource. I have a customer who is a MD (Psychiatrist) who is looking to setup a home office where he can provide consultations via video conferencing.

Obviously, this has to be secure and HIPAA compliant. Any suggestions? Stay clear of this one???

As long as your network can provide the services/implementations required for these regulatory stipulations, I don't see any problem with this.

What kind of video conferencing are they looking at??

I would reach out to a company like Cisco. They might have a white paper on something like this since it will involve networking.

There is an interesting read on the subject here [Link: techhealthperspectives.com] , they are using Skype as an example, however keep in mind that that any new hardware based VC unit - either "high end" i.e Cisco or Polycom, "mid-grade" i.e Lifesize or entry level i.e Grandstream is capable of a very robust encryption and should prompt you if the call is secure.

An encrypted transmission is the key. Your solution should ensure that a current secure transmission method is used and cannot be intercepted. Also, if recording of the session will take place, secure compliant storage is also required.
