I need to mount two 75" LG LED TVs side-by-side on drywall screwed directly to a Fox Blocks (insulated concrete forms) wall in a basement. The mounts will be Strong tilt or flat razor mounts.

My thought is to remove a portion of drywall that is larger than each mount but smaller than the display, and in its place screw a piece of 5/8" plywood to the plastic strips inside the Fox Blockd that the drywall was screwed to. The plywood can be mudded/skimmed and then painted to match the rest of the wall, and I'd simply lag the TV mounts to the plywood. Thoughts?

How far is actual concrete in those ICFs?
Could you use longer concrete anchors and save yourself some work?

Aldo, depending on thickness of drywall and weight of TVs, you might be able to just use drywall if it's flat mounts only.

Otherwise, your plan is most adequate

Assuming that the drywall is currently securely mounted to whatever is in the wall (not hands on familiar with ICF)... I would use 6 togglers in the drywall with flat mounts. TV's only 100 pounds. Togglers can handle it. Drywall can handle it.

Wow, rewind 6 years and you guys would be bashed to hell and back for suggesting mounting tvs to drywall. I pulled down a 98 lb 42" plasma yesterday. Things have changed.

Remember he's saying 75" displays, while drywall will handle it, they are still heavy and I'd be cautious. Can you use togglers and mount to what ever the drywall is mounted to.

Not sure I know what Fox Blocks are.

Basically the drywall gets screwed into vertical strips of plastic which are roughly 1/2-3/4" under the surface of styrofoam. Then it's a few inches of the foam before you hit concrete. There's no void for a toggler anchor to "open up".

If the togglers wont work then you should probably stick with your plan of mounting plywood to the same plastic strip that the drywall is mounted to. Maybe some liquid nails on those plastic strips before you insert the plywood.

Here are all of the technical bulletins for Fox Blocks

The cabinets and drywall documents have info that might be useful to you.

I like the idea of plywood, yet would step it up to 3/4" and anchor it to the concrete and strips.

Here are instructions for cabinets

Or set all-thread with A7 epoxy back into the concrete.
