Has anyone had good luck upconverting cable TV signals so they look halfway decent on a 60"+ projection? I was thinking of using the DVDO iscan HD to upconvert the cable signals so that my customers would get the picture they were expecting to get, when spending as much money as they often times do. I haven't used these before, and I don't even know if the cable signal is WORTH upconverting...Any thoughts?

If you just simply blame everything on the cheap, nasty, lowest bidded, pathetic cable converter box, (as they all are), and compare the DVD picture to the cable picture with the client...you should be cleared of any more pressure to do such a ridiculous task.

Blatent, but truthful.
At what point are we going to demand what we want from the almighty 'providers'?

Well you cant squeeze blood from a turnip....

If your customer is using a Digital or HD box those channels should look excellent. However the analog channels will still leave alot to be desired even if you are receiving an excellent signal. The problem is analog cable has a resolution of something like 280 lines (I can't remember the exact lines of resolution). When you have to blow that up on a 60+ inch screen there is little you can do.

A scaler will help but only if you are receiving a really good signal from the cable company. Otherwise you are just going to increase the problem.

With that said the first thing we always do is install a Channel Plus or Channel Vision high quality cable amplifer. This will usually help temendously because most of the time the cable company has a clean signal it is just very weak.

Good luck.
