After this mess I am only speccing TVs with IP control. Sick and tired of the IR limbo.

It was my fault, they were elderly and didn't need anything fancy. Just a simple system with a TV that would fit the nook...should have stuck to the $700+ TVs

You are more inclined to run into IP issues than IR issues. You just ran into a cheaper set that suffers from more stupid engineering.
