Did a small job a few weeks ago with a 48" 650d...it doesn't have IP control and couldn't find a single IR code set in the C4 database controlled this turd..

I learned everything in and then went to the discrete codes here on RC for the power commands. The off works but on does not...the other thing is I had to have a repeat count of 12 for the off and it sometimes doesn't respond. When I was there it worked fine but it doesn't now. Since the on hex code didn't work I'm just using the on toggle I learned in...

This job is for an elderly client (after this I'm going to have to discriminate as an HD cable box, TV and playbar for better sound has proven to be too complicated even with C4) if I can get this IR command figured out I can get paid and hopefully write this one down in the books!

Thanks!

Ernie, this is not an older DirecTV receiver. And by receiver, I mean a non-tuner DirecTV product.

I just went through this with a KDL40650D and Savant. Agree you can't control via IP and I wondered if it was a port problem. The B series worked flawless via IP but D series changed and when I port scanned the D series TV the port on the TV listed in the Savant profile is closed. I gave up and switched to IR but the problems continued, couldn't get to some of the inputs.

Bottom line is I found a profile that worked, I think it was a KDL40BX1 TV that worked all inputs, on/off volume and mute. I also found a URC file that worked when I went searching their database with my mx850 test remote. I think it was a 40XBR1 or 40XBR2. You may just have to brute force try a bunch of older code sets until you find one that works.

Before digging too deep, have you tried a harmony codeset for discrete (fill in the blank)?

3pedal how are you learning the codes in?
The it learner that's in the controller is mediocre at best
I have a separate ir learning device for this reason

Also you could just tell the driver to use toggle power if it came down to it

We have a Sony 32" controlled via JAP CEC that has almost a year run time without a hiccup. CEC'ing a Sam 75" at the same house too. This was before the IR flux capacitor was out on JAP.

Aw, crap. I read the first post, then wrote three pages. Then had to delete it all.

Au contraire, mon frere: KNOWING it won't work puts us way ahead of dreading the twenty hours needed to research a turd like this.

I just had a similar experience with DirecTV and a $300 Samsung. Makes me want to take a DirecTV remote to the store to try it out before buying a TV!

Lessee, here.... supply a $300 TV and spend $850 of my own time looking for codes that don't exist, but might, versus supplying a $500 TV and being done that afternoon. I supply no more cheap TVs. Cheap TVs ain't cheap.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I think Samm has it right. You are going to have to dig thru old Sony codes.

I have never yet, found a Sony TV that did not respond to ON/OFF IR codes. But I have had some tough ones I had to dig thru many code sets. Sony does have a lot of IR code sets for their devices (including TVs). They just usually use the same common ones but sometimes . . . .

Service call today. Could not get CEC to work consistently. Turns out the tv would respond consistently if I moved the IR emitter around. Found the sweet spot on the TV. Took 10-15 minutes of trial and error. Over 50 trials of on and off it was consistent!

Great news. Seriously though beware of the low end Wal Mart models some of them are Toads on the power. I love Sony too bc discrete codes have been steady over the years but sometimes they do put out a turd.
