Everyone should thank me for my idea to direct all prayers to stopping the storm vs praying for each person to survive it.

Why don't you learn to shut up when someone is being thoughtful of others? Or disclose in your signature that you have Asperger's syndrome and you are not capable of preventing every asinine thought that runs through your head from escaping your mouth?

I just saved all those people from a storm and this is how you talk to me? Rude.

I was just sitting there about 9:30 (in SC) seeing the window and rain die down and thinking I was in the clear, when the power glitched three times in a row and transformers started lighting up. It wasn't like we had particularly high winds anyway, only about 25MPH. But it was enough apparently. I finally got power back four hours later, and dang was I glad of that. I was taking boredom to new heights.

Nothing like what folks further south experienced of course. But it was really annoying. Particularly because the weather folks always overplay things. So a couple days ago I was worrying that it was going to be pretty bad here, then every time I checked the weather it was getting less and less dire. By today I was like, OK, it's just going to be some light rain and a little wind, nothing to worry about. But then I end up having the longest power outage I've had in the 2.5 years I've lived at this place (though nowhere near my week plus length record back during Hugo.)

I can't imagine dealing with a Hugo length outage these days.

Hugo was rough. It made inland all the way to us. I slept through it, and my mother woke me up the next morning to tell me there was no school. I remember being half awake trying to process no school due to a hurricane in the mountains. Then later I got out and went around to see all the damage.

I also slept through it. I didn't know a thing about it and just went to sleep. I woke up at some point in the night and went into the kitchen to get some water. The guy I was sharing the apartment with was sitting up and sort of watching the windows. I saw it was raining but didn't even ask any questions, I just went back to sleep.

Next morning I went outside and a tree had fallen, the end of which was feet from the window where my head was at the end of the bed. I guess maybe that's what woke me up. But another five feet and it would have come through the window right on my head. That would have definitely gotten my attention.

These days I would have sat up that whole night in a massive panic, and gone the days before and bought a life raft and beaver pelts and a trunk full of beef jerky. Though that would probably increase my chances of survival, I'm not sure it's actually really preferable to just sleeping through it.

Our apartment complex's power ran a good ways through a wood, which was a mess. Given that it was going to be a lot of work for a (relatively) small number of people getting their power back, I guess we got prioritized pretty low, and so I think that's why it ended up taking forever. If that happened now, I'd be sitting on the curb downtown begging people to use their tablets.
