I have a new brother in law who is moving into a new home. He bought a room full of furniture for the home, but it was an "all or nothing" purchase. The seller required him to take the old Hitachi 57T500 CRT projection TV, along with other items that belong in a museum. After doing some research, this model has only component video and a DVI input...no HDMI. I believe it is a 2003 set. It still works.
QUESTION: It's been so long ago, I don't remember if there is a cable that is DVI on one end and HDMI on the other. If so, will that work (video only)? New Comcast set top box has HDMI output only.

The only other option might be to go with component video IF Comcast will provide an older set top box with component video capability.

My sis and bro in law live 4 hours away, so I can't just stop by on my way home from work to help.

Thanks in advance!

There are many inexpensive dvi male to hdmi female adaptors that are quite inexpensive. Note that no sound will pass.

That was a great video display back in the day. About 6-8 hours tweaking on it, it could have a stunning picture.

That was 13 years ago! Just because they say it's working... doesn't mean it's 'working'.
Even if it has seen very little use over the years and has low hours on the CRTs, the caking of the cooling fluid is real and most likely the picture is very washed out right now. With average use, there's no way the picture is anything but a washed out, rainbow of convergence, mess!
Add to the fact, DHCP issues you might run into trying to get modern components to hookup to it.

Toss it! It's seen it's day, need to move on. It's not in anyway shape or form worth it.

They can get a 55" Sceptre TV from Walmart for $350. It's a POS but it still will have a better picture than that EOL Hitachi now. Plus you can hook stuff up to it without problems. Much easier to move around and takes up less space.
Few dollars more at $499, they can get a 55" LG.
