What is going on all.
I know this is a long shot with this system, but I am trying to help someone with this system that is installed in their house that they recently purchased.
The port switch is either dead or lost its configuration. Do any of you have a 24 port switch that is configured for this system that you would be willing to sell...or have any of you brought back a port switch from being in a state of the power light flickering yellow?
I need help understanding the configuration as well. I understand that after the replacement that it will need to be commissioned, is there specific software needed to do this or is it a simple plug it in and go?
This system doesn't have any automation things tied to it, just the 1200/6 audio server, xm/Sirius tuner, and that's it. They would like to keep the system if I can get it to work for them.
Thanks in advance
Mike

That company has been bankrupt, sold, renamed, re-sold, etc... at least 1/2 dozen times in the last 9 years. No parts and support remain for the original systems.
That said, I don't think the 24 port switch was anything special. Not even POE was needed, since the panels got their power from a separate power supply on dedicated wires. Maybe a dealer that made the mistake of working with that system back then, can shine some more light on this. I know there were at least 2-3 guys on here, that have dealt with that system before.
Note: if you have a constant flashing port light, have you disconnected the cable to that port and see if it stops? May not be the switch.

Sell them Sonos and iPads for control. Use the vnet stuff for target practice.

Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it....
Brad....I saw that they were sold a million times that is for sure, would rather ditch the system and go with something different for them, but if I can get it up and running for the mean time without a need to deal with the massive holes in the walls, I think that would be best.
Yeah there are no lights on the port switch blinking, it is just the power light, should be green, but it is amber and blinking. Per Netgear it states this could be a number if things, but I haven't dug into it yet.
Mac..... Thank you I will look into this for then to give then the price option.
If anyone has one of these switches laying aroundthat you would like to sell as well as it looked like I need the VNET builder software...if this is available somewhere please let me know.
The system has me intrigued in how it works and I kind of want to figure it out :)
Thanks.
Mike

You are wasting your time. Please understand that old technology, with a company that is no longer in business, is a dead end at best. Anyone in this business has been there and done that.
Please take our advice and move on.

Thank you for your replies and I understand the need to just step away from the system but truly if it is something simple like a port switch that is dead and they can listen to the audio, that is all they want to do. Better than trying to get them to purchase $20K worth of equipment to replace what is there to do the same thing.
do any of you by chance have a 24 port switch laying around from a system that you removed that you would like to get rid of?
Again thank you for the replies and suggestions, but I would like to try a different port switch to get it up and running for them.
Thanks
Mike

The ES1 24 port switch was a managed switch produced by netgear for Colorado vNet. You're not going to make this happen with any plain Jane 24 port switch. As was mentioned above...move on.

In talking with a few people about the port switch itself and having it in front of me there was nothing really special about it, other than it being managed. There was something that I had read, there was specific configuration in this unit, but found out it was nothing that really mattered anyway, may of been something for the larger interfaces. In looking for a "configured" port switch for this, it would take any questions out from my end and likely just be able to plug it in and get it running. This system is literally just a lot of the touchscreen units, and audio server and an XM receiver.
I do appreciate the responses to my questions with this, but again with the system I would like to try and get it up and running cheap for them. If I can spend a couple hundred bucks getting it running and it lasts for a bit for what they want to do, that is a win in my book.
I get the bad feelings about Vnet, but I am not trying to bring the company back alive, just trying to help someone out with a cheap fix/solution for the time being.
Thanks
Mike

You must be really bored and/or independently wealthy Yeah you nailed it......I am bored an love hearing how wrong I am for trying to get this system up and running in a fairly cheap manor. I am not sure why it is necessary to comment if there if there is nothing that can be offered from you other than rash comments. I think that I spelled it out above that I would like to get it fixed for the time being for them, what is so hard to understand about this endeavor? I figured since the company went tits up a while ago someone would have some parts laying around that could be purchased and if someone could offer some experience with how the port switch was setup that would be great. How much is your time worth? Your participation in this thread has gone beyond the "couple hundred bucks" budget.
By the end of this you will have blown through $2000 in labor and a few hundred in parts...and then in 6 months you will be back to square one when something else fails. All the time you invest learning this product is going to be flushed down the drain because it has no value.
You think you are doing your client a favor. Your client thinks you are doing them a favor. The reality is that your wasting your time and their money. And when it occurs to them that they really really want rhapsody or pandora and you tell them "nope sorry" or when another hunk of that junk breaks and they have to wait 3 months while you procure another part...they wont remember that you are doing them a favor. They will rememeber that you are wasting their money.
The people that are telling you that you are wrong know what they are talking about. Most of them had to learn the hard way...myself included. You have been properly warned.

I was going to type this, but saw that Mac already did. However, I would just like to add... I understand that you are trying to help a customer. But the question is, how are you helping yourself right now? You have a potential customer in your sights, that has a system that is outdated and the company is bankrupt, and you're himming and hawing about selling them a new system? What on earth are you thinking? My next question is....Approximately how much is the house worth? Don't try to save people money with your wallet. You've spent a month of your life dealing with this...
