I am currently watching Terminus on Netflix right now with CC enabled. There are a lot of scenes where the CC shows what the person on TV is saying. However at the volume that I am listen at, I do not hear anything. So I turn the volume on as loud as possible, and I still don't hear the TV guy. Sure in some scenes I can hear the TV guy. But that is even at the volume that I have been listening to.

Did someone forget to put that audio track in? Or were there a over zealous person at the CC who saw that on the script.

I am a bit flustered about this. Because what the guy talks about on the TV can somewhat explain what has been happening in the movie thus far. And if you don't have CC enabled, you'll miss those parts.

There's a twist on an old saying: If at first you don't succeed, well, that's one data point.

Aside from being a bit funny, this says that when a set of circumstances occurs, you don't have enough data to make ANY conclusions about what is happening. You need more data points. Watch some other stuff.

Watch TV shows. Watch live TV for a real revelation about CC, especially video of a band performing live. Watch other movies from the same studio. Watch movies from other studios. Watch TV series. If anyone complains that you're spending too much time in front of the TV, you can tell them it's "research."

You'll find that CC is usually pretty good, mostly being really close to the sound track in words and timing. Really rarely, you'll find the CC has completely different words.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Make sure you set your receiver to 5-channel stereo, like our customers always ask for!

Are you sure your center isn't wired backwards (out of phase)?

Wiring the center out of phase causes a very small imaging effect. If you're sitting in the sweet spot and move left and right, the center channel image might move left and right more dramatically than it should. The key point about this is that the center channel, out of phase, only causes problems in audio that can be heard.

His problem is not that.

You're missing a center channel or your modes are set way off.

It's only a 2 channel system. I am watching it on my computer via Klipsch Pro Media 2.0, had to say that to cover the fact I am not using built in computer speakers.

The fact is, someone at the studio forgot something. Either the people who typed out the closed captioning went too far. Someone in the audio department forgot to add the dialog of the person on the TV. Or the producer forgot to tell somebody to either add that, the audio, or not add that, the CC.

I tend to think its the audio, because as I said, the things being said on the TV in the back ground kinda puts the movie in perspective.

I've been using an USB to 3.5mm for years and see no settings for surround sound or whatever. And just to get it out of the way. I plugged the Klipsch directly into the 3.5mm built into the Mac mini. No difference.

Besides, I've gone to websites that has 5.1/7.1 audio testing. Actually got the address from a thread on here. And I can hear all of the channels on my 2 channel. Of course it's down mixed. But nevertheless, I am hearing all of the channels.
