Hi,

I'm thinking of upgrading from MSX 3000 to a Crestron TPS 3000 was wondering do all i need to buy is the TPS 3000 or do i need any other products?

Also if i wanted to program myself can i use Vision Tools Pro - e or again would i need any other devices.

Thanks,
Alwyn.

The TPS-3000 will not do anything as a stand-alone touchpanel, and needs to be connected to a Crestron processor to be anthing more than a lumpy paperweight. I don't recognize the first model number, but if you're planning on replacing another brand of touchpanel or handheld remote with a Crestron system, get in touch with a Crestron dealer to have a system designed for you.

Crestron makes a range of processors. The entry-level (that will do more than 90% of systems need in terms of inputs & outputs) is the CP-2. You'll need a power supply as well.

No, I would not recommend you program it yourself. I can walk into Home Depot and buy lumber, pipe, drywall and fixtures, but I sure cannot build a house. On the other hand, a trained carpenter or plumber can build a house for me without giving it too much clear thought, even hung over. Crestron programming takes an understanding of how systems are connected and operate individually and as a group, and lots of training, and then after that - practice.

Actaually, the MC2E or MC2W are entry level processor. CP2 is one step up. TPS-3000 is a wired panel and would also need a power supply, even if one came with the processor ( which is the case with the MC2 but not the CP2---is everyone keeping up? )

Programming these puppies is probably best left to a professional but if you long to be a DIY it can be done but as someone aptly put it elsewhere it comes with a steep learning curve. If you are really interesting in a wireless touch panel then the ST or STX 1700 may be what you want or the TPMC-10, Crestron's version of a web tablet that functions as a 2- way touch panel but also can run some embedded Window's apps so you can serf the web, read e-mail or open .pdf files.

You might find it wise to contract an installation firm in your area and discover what your options are in fact. You may find that if you wish to program the system yourself the firm my work with you.
