Anyone have any specific success or horror stories with automating a DishNet 921 HD reciever/DVR??

I am planning to use the RTI T2+ remote w/ the new RF unit...

I'm not a pro, but I do have a 921 and here's a few things you may want to know :

The remote that ships with the 921 sends ONLY RF commands to control the unit ( it will send IR to control other brand components such as TV's, VCR's etc. though, go figure why they did that ). So if you need to directly "teach" any IR commands to the RTI, you'll need to buy another Dish remote on Ebay such as the 522 (TV1) remote, they're cheap . The receiver is rumored to soon have the ability to teach all IR commands directly from the receiver to a universal remote, but whether that will happen is unsure given Dish's past broken promises .

Also, all Dish remotes and receivers can be set to 15 different unique addresses so that they don't interfere with each other in a multi-receiver installation . So if you download IR codes, you need to know what address it is and set the receiver to that address . They originally didn't ship with descretes, but I think they have them now .

Lastly, the 921 is scheduled to have a software update in the next week or so to fix some of the problems they've had, mainly to do with OTA recording . Here's a great site to learn more :

I hope i never have to install/program another 921 again! This thing is horrible!! Ships with an RF only remote and finding the IR codes for this was a total pain! I had to install 2 of them in a customers home so i had to find two different ir code sets.. not only that the DVR functions of this unit are clumsy and not user friendly. Changing channels on this unit takes DAYS!!! I highly recomend staying away from this POS and Dish Network all together!

I like the flexibility of the multiple remote control addresses that the Dish DVR921 offers. Like mentioned before, it makes it easy to set up several in one home and not have them interfere with each other, a major problem with cable boxes that are located in a central equipment closet.

I also like the DVR funtionality, it is easy to use and can be recorded to DVD if necessary. It also does a wonderful job of HD recording, playback is very high quality.

The RF remote is a problem, but I would recommend using the remote to the DVR510 or 721 instead of the 522 to program your remote codes. Keep one of these on hand for programming all Dish Network receivers. I have archived many different addresses for use with the MX800 and the Niles Intellicontrol. I am willing to share if they would be of help to you.
