I my search for an 85" TV for a client, I'm wondering if particular brands usually or always have matte screens on all their models, or shiny screens on all their models. Just wondering. It would be a help to know.

Thanks.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

What is the goal- best picture quality, or less reflection in the screen? One of the reasons plasma looks as good as it does is due to the glass, rather than viewing through a matte plastic sheet and it's one of the main reasons I don't like most TVs.

I guess the main question has to do with which brands you want to avoid and which you prefer to work with.

It's definitely a compromise situation. The Theater Room is small, about 16 ft by 25 ft, with the TV on the west wall and a full-width sliding glass door on the east wall. The client is NOT an early riser, and that's a good thing, because the sunlight coming in that slider is quite bright. And THAT's why I'm interested in a less than glossy finish on the TV.

Plasma could indeed be a good idea. How much does an 85" cost these days?

Ernie,

A full articulating mount or at least a tilting mount will help manage those reflections, in addition to the matt finish. And, I recommend dense drapes or shades if you can talk them into it.

Thanks, buzz.

Since we all do custom work, we know we can cope with or ameliorate conditions as they're presented to us. My point was to see what the conditions are from which we must punt.

The drapes will go between the theater room and the pool. There's no dressing room for the pool. I doubt the drapes will be dark, but they'll be here tomorrow....

I don't think you can buy new Plasma TVs any longer, except perhaps on Ebay.

I do custom installation, but no amelioration.

That was meant to be a bit of a joke. Is "new plasma" and "on ebay" in the same sentence also a joke?
