Hey folks, have a client with a vacation condo that currently has NuVo players and he uses a USB hard drive to play his gigantic collection. The player too often has issues reading the collection and ends up choking on the data. His regular home has a ReQuest F3SSD and we recently replaced the LaCie NAS with a Seagate NASPro. The music is backed up in iTunes and he's using Netsync for iTunes on the F3. What's your collective recommendation for the second location? He's got two zones of audio there, 1st- a Denon AVR and 2nd- a Paradigm self amplified stereo setup. Would like your opinions on using a Mac Mini coupled with an airport express.

This maybe more simple than you are thinking, but the newer Denon receivers include Airplay. You could get an iPad mini - which should hold 50k songs - (and possibly a newer Denon AVR), and simply stream music from it to both zones using the DeRemote app. Solves both the client and GUI issues. I'm typically NOT an Apple fan, but I think AirPlay is a decent feature. Now if the music is saved in a truly lossless format.........

Autonomic MMS-2A is going to be the closest to his Request.

A sonos Connect tied to his itunes library(Or Synced NAS library) would handle it just fine as well though.

I was going to ask why you don't use ArqLink, but the page for that and ReQuest don't open. The phone menu is still working, though

Consider a Synology drive connected via Airplay.

2nd zone is not off avr- it's standalone and no chance of getting wire there.

Sonos is 'uncomfortable' with that size library. Like the MMS-2A over Fusion for the nice stand-alone app, but still unsure how to feed the bedroom system wirelessly.

Agreed. This is the perfect solution. You can step to the MMS-5A, if you want the larger internal SSD HDD or use NAS.

Ya didnt say the Second room needed to be wireless....

Does it have to be wireless or is there network at the secondary location?

Is it within bluetooth range?

Is there coax nearby? The MMS2 has a Coax digital out as well.

I'm not an iTunes, AirPlay, or playing from a phone/pad fan, but if this is the user interface that the customer is wedded to, I'd recommend strongly considering staying with the flow. The customer is already familiar with the shortcomings.

Otherwise, I'm a big Sonos with a NAS drive fan.

In any case make sure that you have stellar WiFi.

dcci, I would have said
Roon? I don't mean to just come here and hype my stuff, but the timing was right! Read about it at [Link: cepro.com]. This link is also at [Link: remotecentral.com].

I don't think
Roon?

is helpful enough as we don't know about it yet.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Sorry, it does need to be wireless.

Just out of bluetooth range and seperated by an interior wall.

Coax in use ffor cable TV plant...

Checked out the Roon website- looked like a video of someone navigating iTunes on a Mac. Pass.

Is using a mac mini purely for the hipster 2-channel guys?.. The most attractive thing is using the express to ship audio to the other zone (...wirelessly).

Something from Casatunes may interest you. They make several models with on board HDD which will pull songs from any machine on the network and store them.

They can hardwire, or use AirPlay for wireless zones. They can also control AVRs over the network if your AVR has that capability.
