Blowing fuses. It is very convenient, because it fits inside a 14" x 24" tall can, and it feeds three separate zones of audio. I don't know what else would fit in this wall can. Would you try to get it repaired, or put a Crown or some outboard amp in its place?

Last time I called Elan on a TD amp they didn't know what it was let alone repair it. I did find a guy at Elan eventually and he said repair was not possible. Offered no solution and said I was on my own. Luckily a couple new fuses and it came back to life. The unit had taken a lot of water from a leaky pipe above it.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Is there anything currently available, basically either a 6 to 8 channel amp, or a solid power amp that will work down to 2 ohms, and fit inside a big can? Sounds like an impossibility, but that's why I am asking.

Do not have an amp in mind, but bury a speaker selector to help with the 2 ohm problem or some resistors.

If it's not responsible for door chime, and isn't providing an 'elan tone' through phones- gut it and make a j-box out of it to the new system of choice.

You could get creative and go old school:

I used to install Sound Stream systems. Not much difference.

The TD product was unique, as I recall. Mono or stereo, paging through speakers, door bell interface, page over ride of attenuation. If you customer wants to forgo some of the features, you certainly explore other options...
