Hmm. Hope Sony updates that with 4K BD support. Instant sale for me.

It would require a different physical transport. So you will have to wait till they come out with the UHD player next year - Sony already said they won't bring one to market this year.

I was kind of disappointed that the Sony UHPH1 doesn't let you stream 4K services however. WTF is with that? The Roku 4 does it for only $30 more than the regular Roku 3. Sony couldn't throw 4K streaming in this up-tiered box?

Oppo - not much margin thru most folks channels - some margin direct - just one part of a system = whole lotta love from CIs.

Sonos - not much margin disty - some margin direct - usually leads to more sales and upgrades = lightning rod and no end to debates on the forums.

Funny how we are.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

That is one TASTY little morsel! I might have to actually go out and buy an A/V component for myself!

I, too, would want to wait for the 4K version... I guess....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Sony gets a lot of votes but I just hate their GUI. Their menus are cluttered and all over the place. Has that changed? Ive always hated installing Sony for that reason.

Nope, it's the same crappy interface as usual. One of the many reasons Oppo wins over Sony IMO. Far too many options and submenus on the GUI; I have yet to see a customer figure it out without holding their hand and that's not how things should be with a DVD player. If I wanted a "PlayStation experience" I would buy/sell/install a PlayStation.

Tweeterguy, Sony completely changed their GUI 2 models ago. It is nothing like it has been for the past 10 years before that (with the old Media cross bar - playstation like).

Now the home screen is customizable. It uses tiles to select the services and you program what tiles go there. You can also program what service the 'favorite' command (IR or IP control) will launch.

Wow, you really haven't seen a Sony bluray player in 2 years? It's the #1 selling bluray player out there.

Oppo all the way. Especially if you are integrating with a high end AV system. The Interface is simple and clean. It brings a big bang for the price point. Just like @ tomciara said. Very little margin if any, but it works great. I know we're all in business to make money, but on Blu ray Players and 350$ music players that work great and make us look good, its worth it to not make any $$$. WE still get to sell all the other goodies, plus install them.
I feel like one of the best things about being a true CI is not only having the knowledge and skill to Integrate all these toys correctly, and ascetically accurate, but to be able to guide our clients on the best stuff out there for the dollar.
If we only sold what we could make margin on, then we are just another laim retailer like MODIA!.... I know this may ruffle some feathers out there because we are in business to make money and most of our margins come from gear, not installation. But once again, something as small as a music streamer or a Media Player in the grand scheme of our mission and obligation to our clients is minuscule. I sell Oppo and Sonos every chance I get. I usually order them directly from Manuf. If I'm in a pinch I unfortunately give my money to BB (their magnolia stores usually stock the 103d and 105). I charge the client 60$ to facilitate the purchase. I then install it with the system, charge for that and guess what? Another satisfied customer and a clear conscious. I could sell Sony or Sammy BS BDP's and Denon's Crap HEOS and make margin. But I don't because I know I can give my client a better product....
hey! it works!

What problems have you had with HEOS? I only have a few systems out there but the customers love them and I haven't had any problems yet (been over a year since I sold the 1st one now).

The biggest negative I can say about HEOS at this moment, is they seem to have abandoned the CI market of it. You can now buy direct on amazon.com for dealer cost (and sometimes a few $ below dealer cost). This was really a kick in the balls to all of us dealers. Yes we could try and sell it for whatever we want, good luck with that.
The SONOS people are having a field day with this of course. After bitching about the margins so much on SONOS and praising HEOS for given us a little more - LOL, now SONOS at least 'has' margin in it. HEOS giveth & HEOS taketh away.
Also, trying to ask questions to the representatives at HEOS results in crickets. Indeed, they haven't answered a thread in their dedicated forum at IP, since last year. They hadn't even checked in since last year but I noticed recently 1 did check in real quick last month - but no replies to any of the threads.

[edit]: I went and looked on amazon.com real quick. It appears Denon has gone back up on a lot of the prices for the HEOS units (although some are still at cost).

To your point about Oppo margin, how much margin are you making on a Sony BDP? I know its no more than on an Oppo, just the total dollar of the sale skews it to where you think you should be making more.

I need two of these. One is for a Master Bedroom system. The other is for a home theater that will have an 85" TV. The margin on the BD could be zero, and if it worked for the client, that would be the product to get.
