I use Mitubishi and Sony VCRs. Discretes exist for all and more than you will need.

Did you try the discrete codes in the file section? I don't use JVC DVDs but I use the VCRs and they do have discrete codes. By the way must off the DVDs Turn on with the play command.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

I hear your frustrations on the new JVCs....
I bought the new JVC S-video deck and got burned because it has video and line inputs on the FRONT only, and the composite and S outputs don't have a strong enough sync for the Denon AVR-3805's transcoder to convert it to component... guess i'm pulling another cable and reworking the macros over there.
I would have punted and replaced it with the Mits if I hadn't already receiver the Mid Atlantic RSH shelf for the thing.

You would have punted again. We use JVC vcr's and ran into the same problem. Buddy is a Mits dealer so I swung by and got a Mits VCR. Same problem.

On the flip side we have done several Denon 1905's with toshiba and sony VCRs without any problems.
