I've installed one of these and client is having issues with sending email notifications. For a few months it was working just fine and the other day it just stopped. No settings were changed. I have signed in to try my emails with correct settings and I keep getting test failed.

Everything else is working just fine, including his DNS and iphone app vieweing

(has latest firmware)

any ideas? didnt call tech support yet, was hoping for a quick fix. odd issue

What email server are you using?

If Google, then you need to login to account online and change the setting for "Allow less secure apps to send email".

I've had to do that on a lot of accounts.

Are you using Gmail as the email server? If so Google has blocked some services from being able to connect to their email servers. You have to allow access.

Yea, gmail was originally setup. And I did all that months ago with the allow less secure access and all of that. Was working fine for a long time and a few days ago just stopped.

I used my email as a test and still says failed.

I will try telnet to see if maybe the ISP is blocking ports or if the router is doing this...but I doubt that.

Look at the last page of this thread: [Link: cocoontech.com]
We've been discussing another product where Gmail stopped for few days, but it restarted today with no other input/changes. Maybe Google was broken for few days.
Anyways, as of 4am today, it's been working for me -- see if same happened on your system. In other words, test it now.

Thanks for the link, I was able to get some info.

The problem came back against yesterday. Rebooting everything didnt fix it, also set up a smtp2go account and that failed. sigh

this is hard to troubleshoot

YES! Man I hate those customers. Then they have no idea what their password is.

Even better - Those customers where you are trying to setup their services on the devices you just installed. Takes them 30 minutes to get you the login info. Then it is wrong! They spend another 30 minutes calling their kids to see if they know and giving you more username/passwords that are all wrong! After 2 hours, for something that should have taken 15 minutes, you get it all done. And you sit there wonder how they would react if you give them an additional bill for 2 hours of time :)

Note: You told the customer ahead of time to have all this info ready.

Wait, what?
What do you mean'wonder'?
You are billing them for it, right?

On the smaller low budget jobs, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

If the customer is an ass and I clearly see they have the means, they get a bill.

Elderly couple that is nice (just very forgetful) and living on a tight budget, I enjoy the extra talking time with them and thank them when I'm all done.

I would be very shocked if smtp2go can't be made to work. There may be a configuration issue, a typo, or another option you can use. You should check their FAQ, or contact tech support.

Did you ever get this working? My own personal wirepath DVR died and threw in a Luma 4 channel DVR to get my cameras back up, since I was leaving town for weekend. Could not get the damn email notifications to work for motion.

Gmail No. Created new gmail acct and allowed less secure apps and still no. Tried iCloud acct, optimum online acct and created a new yahoo acct. Test button failed immediatley for every option.

Tried rebooting my Tik. Same thing. Will reach out to Snap today but didn't know if you had a resolution.
