I think this system was OK (customer didn't complain) but to add 4 sat boxes I had to change out the 3x4 multiswitch for a 3x8.

Client's daughter said it wasn't getting a disney channel and an MTV (channel 311 and 331). I found Animal Planet dead too.

DirecTV says they are on transponders 10 and 11 and they show no signal, zilch. 18, 26, 28 I think are dead too. Others read signal of 81 to 96 on the RCA receiver. They recommended bypassing the multiswitch; run it directly from the dish to one receiver and try again. Still dead on those transponders.

Does this mean the LNB is defective? The lead ins to it are brand new...oh, and all 7 receivers in the house are affected by this problem.

Is this happening in just one receiver? If that is the case, bypass the multiswitch and try again. If you still have the same problem then try another receiver in the same location. If you still have the same problem then you have a problem with the cable. Something as simple as a kink in the cable could may you lose some transponders in a determine frecuency. If the problems is in all or more than one receiver try changing the multiswith and/or LNB.

The cables are new, I just pulled them.

All receivers in the house (7) behave the same thru the multiswitch. I bypassed it to one receiver and had no change so didn't think that 7 receivers could be at fault (4 of them new).

I just ran one of the cables from the LNB directly to the receiver in the master bedroom. No change. For grins I also tried the other cable from the LNB. No change.

I haven't tried a new 3x8 since bypassing it seemed to be a better test. Right?

Tom, it looks like you jiggled the handle on this one.

There was a problem before and they did not care to complain, or your work caused something on the edge to just shoot on over to DEAD.

Sounds like a bad LNB to me. Direct connection to a receiver should give you perfect results if the receiver, wires and LNB are good. Try a second receiver. If that gives the same result, the anal approach is to go hang another piece of wire and test with both receivers. (This is where you decide it might be cheaper to replace the LNB.) If it then somehow turns out that the cable is to blame (I can't see how), you must be ready with your best "Hot Damn, that is UH-Mazing!" face. Because it will be.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
