I KNOW AND RESPECT THE FACT THAT ALL YOU FOLKS OUT THERE ON THIS FORUM ARE PROFESSIONALS AND I RESPECT THAT. THAT IS EXACTLY WHY I'M POSTING THIS THREAD ON THIS FORUM. I'M NOT A PRO, BUT I COULD USE SOME HELP. I WANT TO GET IT FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE THAT IS WHY I AM ON THE INSTALLER'S FORUM.
MY NAME IS STEVE KOVACS. I NEED HELP ON FINDING, AND TURNING DISCRETE CODES INTO USEABLE IR SIGNALS. I AM NEW TO THE PROCESS OF FINDING CODES AND LOADING THEM INTO A REMOTE SUCH AS THE PRONTO. AND IF IT IS A PRONTO I SHOULD PURCHASE, WHICH MODEL? I JUST BOUGHT A NEW HOME AND I'M BUILDING AN 8 ZONE AUDIO/VIDEO SYTEM, AND I WANT ONE BUTTON CONTROL ON EACH REMOTE IN EVERY ROOM. WITHOUT DISCRETE ON/OFF FOR MY 6 TVs, AND 8 RECEIVERS, AND WITHOUT DISCRETE SOURCE SELECT FOR TV INPUTS, ONE BUTTON CONTROL IS IMPOSSIBLE. I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO FIND THE CODES AND TURN THEM INTO USEABLE IR SIGNALS. WHAT REMOTE DO I PURCHASE AND HOW EASY IS IT TO...
A. FIND THE CODES I NEED
B. TURN THEM INTO A USEABLE IR SIGNAL.
I NEED HELP! MY E MAIL IS [email protected], BUT BETTER YET I WOULD LOVE TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ON THE PHONE ABOUT THIS. I'M AT (207) 229-9178.
I'LL BE GALD TO PAY FOR ANY PERSON'S TIME FOR THE HELP. AND THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Have you thought about hiring a qualified professional in your area? Or about taking CAPS LOCK off?

The first thing you need to do is find out if all the gear that you have support discrete codes. Go to the files section and look for the discrete codes first. If you dont find a particular brand there you can post in the Discrete Hunter Forum and find out if any of your pieces is a TOAD
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

I do not want to hire someone becuase I want to learn how to do this. The learning process is more what I'm after than anything. Putting together this av system in my new home is my hobby. To have someone else do it would be taking away the fun part for me.

Just wanted to say thanks for the encouraging words. I think I will need a bit of luck. Thanks for wishing me just that.

Steve depends how much you want to get into it.

If it is to find a few codes for a few devices you have, that is one thing. If it is to learn more about IR and the way the Pronto treats IR then there are many good utilities and documents in the Pronto file section.

Basically IR is just flashing light. The sequence of on/off intervals end up sending a message. Usually different sequences will have different values and so IR codes can be thought of as numbers and depending on the schema the max possibilities might be 64,128 or 256 (don't know of any other ones, but there could be) Now if someone has studied all the codes then they might say on=17 off=18.... but if not and you know the schema you can build all the possible codes and test them to see if any of them are discrete codes or codes not on the remote
