While do some programming I was asked to figure out why no cable and only half of the existing satellite channels came in at a particular location. I fixed the problem with the DBS IRD receiving half of its channels rather quickly but the issue of the cable TV is still unresolved. I was there to program and did not have time nor all of my gear to go through a thorough test.

I discovered that the feed for the 30 sets was diplexed. I eventually found where the cable came in from the street and the drop was run using RG-6 and was grounded but not diplexed at this location. Rather then continuing to the distribution point it seemed to travel up but I have no idea to where.

I cannot fathom why one would dixplex a CATV feed. The DBS feeds come from the attic and are connected to the DBS distribution directly. The diplexed feed would be an output for DBS but the input is the CATV feed for the entire home--to the best I could determine.

Anyone have any ideas on how to locate where the missing diplexer and determine where it is? Anyone have a clue as to why you would short stop a feed for a very large RF distribution system? Fixing this problem my be as simple as installing a second diplexer in the room without cable. But I am curious as to where this diplexed cable feed originates.

Fluke microtest will identify length of run, and shorts, have you tried using any test equiment to possibly determine length to short?

They could have done what we call reverse diplexing.

They used another diplexor from one receiver to mirror the sat signal to another TV that they could not get a line to.
