1. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH USING AN ALL FOR ONE REMOTE WITH A JP1 CABLE IS CHEAPER, BUT A MORE COMPLICATED, CUMBERSOME WAY OF GETTING DISECRETE CODES THAN USING A PRONTO. WOULD YOU SAY THAT THIS IS TRUE?
Don't know, never used JP1 or one for all, but many people go that route for
discrete codes. Also using robman's site you will see that one-for all
remotes tend to already have many discrete codes in their DB and you can use his site to find
them
2. WHICH DISCRETE CODES ARE MORE READILY ACCESSIBLE, AND EASY TO FIND? THE CODES YOU USE FOR THE PRONTO, OR THE CODES USED IN THE ONE FOR ALL REMOTE?
don't know, I would guess they should be about equal. Also if you have a
discrete code in Pronto format I am sure there are others on RC that can
help you translate them, I also think there is a program that can do the
translations, but Robman or one of the other JP1ers would be a better person
to ask
3. PUTTING THE MONEY ISSUE ASIDE, WOULD YOU RECOMEND I GO THE PRONTO ROUTE, OR THE ONE FOR ALL ROUTE? I NEED YOU TO CONSIDER IN YOUR ANSWER,..
don't know, but I do consider it a waste of a Pronto to be bought for only
that reason. On the other hand if you get one you might decide you prefer it
to the Sony :-)
4. FINALLY, ALL I REALLY NEED IS A FEW CODES I DO NOT ALREADY HAVE THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS...
1. discrete on/off for my Sony Trinitron tv
2. discrete on off for 2 different model Onkyo receivers
3. discrete on/off for my RCA tv.
4. discrete on/off for my Akai plasma monitor
Could it be possible I could pay a professional to load these codes (if they exist) onto my Sony learning remote and pay them for their service?
I know Robman has posted in some threads (in the general and and/or one for all forums on this site) from people that did not want to get into JP1 but wanted the codes that he would upload them if people bought the remote from him, I don't know if he charges extra for it or not. On the other hand Sony and RCA are common brands, so I am sure that you don't even need JP1 for those
