I have finally found someone to come and give me a rundown of what I can and cant do in my home(retrofit). What types of things can you guys suggest to me other than the list below that are productivie things for your home and add value to everyday living?
I want to have video security , doorphone, mp3 server, dedicated component closet, distributed audio/video and lighting. What type of wiring should this installer be suggesting to me? Thanks for your help it is appreciated

Immposible to suggest. Retrofit requires an installer to visit the site to see whats resonable. How much drywall repair do you want to do? What kind of house is it? Basement/Attic access???
Only thing i can recommend without a doubt is a Lutron RadioRa Lighting System (Or Homeserve if you want more flexibility or its a large home)

Like Impaqt said, you've got to get him in the house first.
The only thing I would suggest is sit down and write out a wish list for what you would like to do in the home.
Then let the installer walk you through what he can or can't do for you.

and after an installer says what he can do, be sure to get a second and third opinion...
Some installers say they can do X for you, but really can't... The last thing you want is a screwed up house.

We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours. |

Remember bring money, money can cure all your wiring ailments, after impossible drops that may or may not require sheet rock damage...
Anything is possible, as long as you are wiling to pay for it...
