I'm at the cost cutting stage of a JAP system design. If I eliminate a couple receivers I can use a smaller switch. I have a zone with 3 displays that can all play the same source and I'd be able to eliminate the receivers that push me into the larger switch. So, I need to distribute the HDMI output of a single 3G receiver to 2 projectors and a TV. I want to keep the receiver at the rack - about 70' run to each display.

I'm looking for an HDBaseT splitter/receiver setup like these:

I found a few others but none from the usual manufacturers. Any other ideas? Anyone have any experience with a splitter like this? Am I setting myself up for an EDID nightmare?

I have split the output of a JAP receiver using a 1x4 hdmi splitter and it has worked fine.  The EDID info is stored in the transmitter, so as long as all the displays can handle the same resolution, you shouldn't have any issue.

For how expensive that Kanex unit is, and the additional hdbt receivers you will need to make that work, how are you saving any money?

Great

Agreed. I'm looking for alternatives. I'm turning 4 receivers (one would've stayed at the rack to feed audio) into 1. And I can then replace a 48 port managed POE switch with a 24 port. So there are some potential savings.

You mention 3G.. Are you doing 4K?

Why not give the client the choice?

Option 1 uses the 48 port and receivers for each display and guarantees worry free operation and no call backs for you

Option 2 saves some money now but could potentially have you wasting hours in the field with settings and or issues with the splitter, hdbaset stuff and long hdmi cables..

How much money are you really saving if it takes a day or two of labor and or a few calls from the client that they are having issues with the displays?

Why not knock out what ever network switch you were going to use for the main network and use the rest of the 48 port for that? There is some additional savings to offset the price of the 48 port.

Found this, looks enticing:

And plenty other off brand examples. Would prefer to use a brand I trust.

You could keep the 24 port, then put a small non managed gigabit switch on the port that will feed the three receivers.  this will keep all three receivers on the same vlan and they will all display the same source.

Liberty appears to have the same piece as the kanex - DLR $ is quite a bit less than BH, but then you still have to get receivers.

That right there shaves over $1K retail. And control commands stay routable to each receiver.
Perfect - thank you.

What about taking the swithport and plugging it into an unmanaged switch, then putting in three JAP rx's. It would probably save you a lot a headaches, still gets you to a smaller switch. I would think the cost of the JAP Rx is about the cost of a similar quality HD-Base T extender. No issues with EDID, HDCP handshake, etc. I achieved this with a $19 Trend Net Gigabit switch that has been working for 2+ years.
