just had carpal tunnel surgery today at 2:30. man she's getting sore. my doctor does it open versus endoscopic which I gotta admit i wasn't so sure about. They say less risk but more painful recovery. Anyone ever have it? Hoping pain subsides quick. Gonna have to take some pain meds now. Im left handed. Did that one first so it has more time to heal good before back to work. Out of work until sept. Next hand done in 7 weeks. Might have to post up some new in box stuff I have on here for some cash. Snap 9 ch. NVR, baluns, & soundbar. Pakedge 24port switch.

Anyways if anyone had it done let me know what method and how recovery was.

p.s. typing right handed sucks!

I wish you a speedy recovery sir! I snapped my ankle the day after thanksgiving and I am still not 100%....basically surgery and/or breaking body parts are far from fun! I know it is expensive, but if you are really going to be down for the count, you may want to see if you could get set up with aflac, that could help with lost income....ymmv.

Try going a year with a broken wrist and not knowing it. Uh, yeah, bone graft from the hip, crush on the surgeon who had to see me naked, memories from waking up during the surgery when fully exposed to the surgeon. Not pretty.

Heal soon!

I'll be in your boat soon. Waiting on my mri, I tore some cartilage in my left wrist a few years ago. Can't do any more cortisone, doc says I'm looking at 2 months in a cast to my elbow and 2 months therapy after that.

Hope you at feeling better soon. It's gonna be a sucky summer.

I snapped my ankle in half as a teenager, it was over a year before I was even close to fully functional.

I wore casts for hand wrist arm bone breaks throughout highschool thanks to football. It sucked but the pain i have in both hands/wrists over the last few years is much worse. From the middle of my forearm to the tips of my fingers...pain and numbness 24/7. I need surgery but thoss racks wont wire themselves.

Get well soon...let me know if the surgery helps.

C'mon, Mac, use those analytical skills. Those racks won't wire themselves today without you, right. If When you have surgery, they won't wire themselves for a period of time. But without surgery, they might not wire themselves for a way much longer time.

I'm sorry to hear about all of the problems you guys have had. We talk about all sorts of things hear at remote central, but I can't remember ever seeing a discussion of the normal pains and damage that all people go through. Thanks for telling us.

What would be ironic is a surgeon who only does the carpal tunnel surgery. And guess what he gets from doing it over and over and over.

Gerard,
I hope you heal soon. That sounds like a long time out of work, I feel for you!
I'm personally healing from a broken collarbone, cracked ribs that happened two weeks ago. My helper is my "left hand man" right now. I can't imagine having both hands out of commission.

While we are comparing scars, I am sitting here after knee surgery last week.
lots of skateboarding, surfing, motoX at a younger age. A few years of doing this, lots of years turning wrenches, flipping a few homes and what not.
Some times those trips up and down the ladder were hell!

Been putting it off for years, until a couple months ago whilst dragging a very heavy refrigerator up a ramp into the moving truck my left knee gave a very final F U bud.

The problem there was I was 2 days into a 5 day deal and could not lay down, had to git r dun.

To answer the OP's question, i had it open and it was explained to me that there is a greatly reduced risk of needing the surgery repeated later on this way. Mine was about 15 years ago. Both hands were done 2 weeks apart so that i could take care of things i'd rather not ask my wife to do. You know what i'm talking about. My hands have been perfect since, save for a bit of arthritis setting in but that's unrelated.

It was probably 8 weeks before i could return to installation work but some things were still very painful to do at that point. The worst was pushing down with the palm of my hand. Make sure you get ultrasound treatments on your hands to soften the scar tissue as it heals or you may end up with painful lumps of scar tissue where the surgery was done.

Now while we are comparing war wounds, i had to give up my job and leave the industry after having spinal fusion surgery in my neck and almost 3 years off work. Admittedly a good part of that time was waiting for the surgery and then finding a new job afterwards when i realised i couldn't return to the job i had due to physical limitations.
As it turned out, i now earn 3 times the wage i used to, work from home (no commute to and from work rocks) and get to travel all over Australia and overseas a couple of times a year as well, so it's hard to complain.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

I need a hip replacement. Have been dealing with the pain the last year but lately the pain has gotten much worse. The main problem with pain is trying to sleep. I can deal with the pain during the day but at night when I try to go to sleep the pain keeps me awake.

Now a good night sleep is 4 or 5 hours. The problem is it is not all in one segment. I will go to bed at 11 but wake up around 12:30. Then I am up till around 3:00 and fall asleep for 3 hours and wake up at 6:00.

On the plus side I have a lot of time to do my estimates and invoices during the night when I can't sleep.
If you are going to do the job...why not do it the right way?

Back in October I broke my left collar bone. Sucked that hurt worse then this. My right hand is ok for now surgery in 7 weeks or so on that. They won't do both at once.
