If I am 10 feet from someone with headphones, either over ear or in ear. And I can clearly hear the music and signing, then it's way too loud.

I gave my father in law a set of Sennheiser 160's. When you enter the room you can hear them from 20 feet away.

But, he did work for Eastern Airlines a lot of years, and that definitely took a toll on his hearing.

A while ago they outlawed plastic bags here. Now, just about every time we go to a grocery store, we get compliments. Why? Instead of buying some bulky stack of cloth bags I just folded up a bunch of restaurant plastic bags (w/handles) and put them in a old baggie box. People amazed at the genius of plastic bags in a box. No wonder our political system is crap.

What?!? I always carry and use ear protection and lots of people think that I'm a wimp. These same tough guys are amazed that I can diagnose all sorts of little equipment faults -- apparently by stealth. What they can't comprehend is that these little faults are highlighted by little noises that burned out tough guy ears cannot detect.

---

One person's folly is another's meat and potatoes.

There was a parking lot across the street from my college apartment. In a 4x4 shead sat the lot attendant. My classmates and professors would walk by shaking their heads, while blessing the stars that this would not be their fate. However, if you looked closely you could see the guy inside laughing at these silly, worried people. With his feet propped on the window, he smirked, "I sit here all day, don't do noth'n, and they pay me". In the end I wonder who has been more satisfied with life.

I see people using demolition saws, jackhammers, air chisels, grinders and all kinds of machinery without hearing protection and it's impossible for me to imagine how their hearing has been affected. I know someone who thinks his ears are "tough" and he has seen a lot of bands with no plugs or anything else in his ears. Having been at a lot of the same shows, I would say he's in total denial.

That guy in the 4 by 4 should think about his life- he may be happy, but he has done NOTHING. He has made NOTHING. He has created NOTHING. He may not have done anything to help anyone. On paper, he's doing great- no effort, gets paid.

Going back to do some additional troubleshooting on the stereo systems on a 55' boat at the marina. Bright sunny day- I'll take it.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

there is a gunsmith that hangs out at the gun shop that I often stop by after work. I think he's almost 70, and he reminds me of a cartoon character. Whenever someone says something to him he cups his ear and says "HUH?" I believe he even has hearing aids. 70 years of shooting without wearing hearing protection.

That 4 by 4 shed job. Well that would be perfect for a student. Get paid to study.

And that would quickly turn into 'Perfect for playing video games and Social Media'.

Touché.

I'm not a gamer or someone is stuck on social media. Don't even have a Facebook.

So I didn't even think of either of those two. Lol

Think I topped this. Yesterday as I began mowing the backyard my wife decides to setup chairs and lay out in the sun. Right in the middle of the yard. Slightly off topic, but thought it was a classic dumb move.

I always loved how some people would say. "Put your shoes and socks on."

Did you shut your mouth and mow around her? Or did you have a moment of dumbness and tell her to move?

I had to go in Walmart this afternoon (I don't know why, that's where my wife told me she wanted to go). As I was wondering around, I saw there was a bottle of wine shattered all over the floor (don't cry Kelly, it wasn't anything any good). It took 5 people to clean it up. The first guy looked like he came out of the meat department (had the white butchers coat on) and he stood in the aisle so no one would fall or get cut. The second guy came up carrying an orange Wet Floor sign and set it up. The third looked like a supervisor that showed up to make sure everything was right. Then two women arrived with a janitorial cart. They spread some kind of spill absorbing material on the floor (looked kind of like fake snow). Then one swept up the stuff and the other woman mopped the floor.
