Several months ago a change was made in the layout of the splash page that comes up when you click on a story headline above the list of threads here at remotecentral.

It used to be that a splash page came up, always with an ad. Cool. You have to make money. I see the ad, whether I click on it or not, so something gets through to me. A skip link allowed us to click on through. IIRC, that link was at the top right of the page.

The change was to place the skip link below the visible part of the image, so I have to scroll down to go past that page. It might be that this doesn't require scrolling on all computers, but it does on mine.*

And, yup, the added motions of scrolling down, just to see an article that I'm sort of interested in, usually is enough to discourage me from bothering. So, less and less, I click on article titles.

Move the link back up and I'll visit more often.

*Sometimes when I skip down on the scroll bar, a few lines are skipped and I have to scroll back up a little to see them, so this might be my laptop's fault.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Your laptop isn't at fault- if anything, it would be your browser's settings. Get AdBlock Plus.

More information is needed. What OS, what browser and their version.

IIRC, he posted that he's using Firefox 25. Time to update, since they're on v46.

Skim, not read.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

There's also something weird going on in that the RC feed used to only pick up our "top" stories, not the rest of the stuff. Now it seems to be picking up everything, including the junk. I'll talk to our Web guys and see why that's happening.

On the other stuff ... I have no clue what you're talking about, sorry.

Let me splain it to you. Useta be that when I clicked on a story, I got a splash page from CEPro advertising something. I could mouse up to the top right of the page, click SKIP, and move right on to the article I want.

Nowadays, the SKIP link is no longer in the top right corner. It's in the middle below the thing you're pushing. I have to scroll down to make it appear so that I can SKIP directly to the article.

The other thing I was talking about is like this: Let's say an article is 40 lines long. Your web page shows (on my screen) the first 25 lines. To read more, I click down in the scroll bar. The page jumps down, but now the top line is line 29. I have to scroll back up a bit to see lines 26, 27, and 28. These numbers aren't exact but demonstrate the nature of what it does.

So... there's a problem somewhere. If the problem is that my monitor does not show as many lines as it should, then maybe it's the monitor's fault that the SKIP link in your splash page doesn't appear at the bottom of the screen.

If that doesn't make it clear, that's okay. We've all just spent more time on it than it's worth.

You could've spent that time reading CE Pro.

Well, we fixed one thing. The second-tier stories that have been showing up are gone (announcement: Honeywell hires administrative assistant to the warehouse manager). So only the stories tagged "actually newsworthy" or some such thing will appear in the feed.

Thanks as always to Daniel Tonks for providing that feed!
