I have an iPad at a project. 1 of 15. It worked for 3 years with no problems.

Current problem is that it will not connect to the homes wifi network. It was originally set to static so i changed to DHCP...no luck. I know the password is right because i tested it with my phone.

If i set my phone as a hotspot i can connect to it with the iPad.

The iPad lets you type in the password then tells you that you cant connect.

I tried resetting the network. Then i tried updating iOS. I have not tried wiping it and starting over.

Any thoughts?

Settings : WiFi : tap "i" on the SSID and then choose Forget this network?

Settings : General : Reset : Reset Network Settings ?

I have had to do the "forget this network" thing to the odd IOS device over the years.

My old iphone did this at my house once (on an apple network no less).
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

Hopefully this does it. I dont remember seeing a forget this network button but that might be because the ipad is still running the oroginal OS that shipped with it. iPad2!

I updated the OS before i gave up so hopefully its there.

Probably not the issue since it's been working for so long, but make sure that the wifi password is NOT WPA-TKIP. I've had a ton of difficulty with that and Apple products in the past.

WPA2-AES is recommended.

This iPad was in a guest room. Every time i visit the site i find that someone has given out the Guided Access password so that a guest can use the iPad for facebook or email. I'm guessing an "apple expert" was tinkering with settings.

Happened to my wife's iPhone 6s. it was able to connected any Wi-Fi or Hot Spot, but Home Wi-Fi. Multiple trips to Apple store, done hard resets. Same result, unable to connect to home Wi-Fi.

Finally, Apple's Guru agreed to replace he phone with new one. Problem solved.

Mac, in your case. Tell Mr. Client just replace that defected unit with a new one and be done with it.

The client will never know about it...and i mean that in a good way. It was discovered during a scheduled system check and it will be resolved before they ever have an issue with it. I also discovered a dead Crestron MTX-3. Crestron is replacing at no charge. And finally i replaced AA batteries in 3 keyboards/mice that were dead or going to be dead soon.

One thing that boggles my mind at this house is that the 4 Middle Atlantic UPS's that we installed in 2012 still have good/strong batteries in them.

2012? That's not too unexpected. Right now my entire office is hooked up to a big APC UPS with batteries from 2006! The runtime is certainly reduced over what it once was, but they're still good for about 3 hours of desktop runtime in an emergency.

Coincidentally, I've been pricing out replacement batteries this week, as 10 years is kind of pushing my "these are going to go pretty soon" button. The main UPS wants 1 battery pack, and the extended module wants 2 battery packs. Stupidly, it's cheaper to buy an all-new extended module with batteries, than it is to buy the batteries to put in it!

For us its usually 2-3 years before every battery has to be replaced. Mostly rebadged APC's.

Must be a Candian thing. Ha. I have a APC S10 UPS and found the individual batteries to be cheaper. B&H is the only site that I could find quickly that sells the batteries installed in the tray. [Link: bhphotovideo.com]

If you google RBC63, you'll find more sites selling the batteries only advising you to use the old tray and cables.

Heh, it's even priced that way at B&H:

APCRBC140 = $492.99 x 2 = $985.98
SURT192XLBP (with 2 of above) = $849.99

Anyways, just did a runtime calibration... at 30% load the 10-year-old batteries lasted 132 minutes. But that's with 3 file servers running that I normally shut down when I'm trying to extend usage to bridge a lengthy outage.

Are you able to crack open the old battery case? From my experience most UPS' use 12V 7Ah batteries placed in series. That case looks about the same size as a couple of these batteries (which you can purchase from many suppliers for less than $20ea).

Yup, I've already removed the tray and looked at how the batteries are hooked up and what not.

Tested each of them for any voltage difference and they were still fine. I don't know how old they are, as it's a second hand unit. Since they're still good, I just left them alone.
