Hey, what do you use to terminate those itty bitty
cables? You can't terminate those with regular
crimp or regular compression fittings, can you??

We have had great luck with the solder fittings from IXOS. We are in the process of changing over to signatur connectors. They are about three times as expensive as the IXOS brand, but you don't have to solder. And the Sig Crimping tool is $58. Still beats soldering and heat shrinking the fittings, but at least I know that the connection is good.

As for the Multi-core wire running to the Plasma, it depends on the situation. I have a customer who purchased a 3802 a few years ago without upconversion. He would not buy a new receiver, so we ran two 6-core wires to his plasma. You can also use a scaler with multiple inputs and just use one wire. 90% of the time we use a receiver with up conversion but sometimes the customer does not want surround sound and has a VCR, DVD, Cable Box, etc that they want plugged into. For a normal installation multi-core wire works great.

I am in agreement with most posts about selling a reciever... the other option is to use an HD/Componant video switcher, but by the time you do that, you might as well spend another 150$-200$ for the new Denon 1910 reciever (which has upscaling in it now for the same price as the 1804 it phased out)... they run around 500 bux or so

The AVR485 also has component video upconversion for only $300.

While I haven't actually used a AVR-485 the specs do not say anything about upconversion. However I know the 685/1705 and higher all support upconversion.

or is there a simpler solution?
Thanks,
Jack

Yes, there is in fact a very simple solution. Isn't that what you asked for?

OK here goes-

Run 8 quality pieces of coax (or whatever you already have, one full box should do,)
Then use high quality crimpable RCA connectors (or whatever you have, F to RCA adapters will work,)

Run phone line for IR or if you dont have phone wire use coax and an injector.

Run a DVI (optional, but yes do it)
