Ran across this problem Friday:
Client has Sony 4K TV,
directv 4K sat box
Rotel rsp 1582 pre amp

If I hook up directly from sat to tv I get 4K programming
If I go through preamp, message on sat pic says tv not 4K.
All other channels come in.

Rotel sent me a message today stating that directv content is 2.2 hdcp, the rsp 1582 (which just came out in October I think). Is only 2.0 hdcp. Rotel will have a new HDMI board available to dealers sometime this summer, that will have three 2.2 HDMI inputs and one 2.2 output ( all other HDMI inputs and outputs are 2.0.

Also, when going thru Rotel, if your watching a 1080 program, if you turn off preamp or change inputs then go back to directv, the box will default to 480. Only settings in directv are 720p, 1080i, 1080p and 4K.
The sat box stays on 1080 if I power of sat box. Only does it when I power off Rotel.

Just a heads up
why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

There is no such thing as HDMI v. 2.2 Highest right now is 2.0b the HDMI spec specifies the data rates and the overall capabilities of the cable itself. 1.4 is all that is necessary for most current 4k content.

HDCP Rev 2.2 has been in existence since early 2013. HDMI HDCP 2.0 was never a published specification so it would be very strange for rotel to create a card that used it. it went from 1.4 then jumped all the way to 2.2 as DCP worked out all the kinks.

None of this really matters as your rotel obviously just doesn't work right. I just get frustrated seeing people confuse the HDMI 2.0(a)(b) specifications and the HDCP 2.2 Specifications too often.

Just going by what Rotel told me.

Why do other recievers have HDMI inputs labeled 2.2?
Integra, Marantz?

hank you for contacting the Rotel Technical Support Department.

After discussing with some of my colleagues, the 4K content from Direct TV is probably HDCP 2.2 copy protected. The RSP-1582 will have an HDMI upgrade board available around summer time 2016 of which will contain eight HDMI 2.0 inputs and two HDMI 2.0 outputs. Three of the inputs will support HDCP 2.2 and one of the HDMI outputs will support HDCP 2.2

2.2 refers to the HDCP digital content protection. not the HDMI standard. HDCP is a secondary function to the HDMI transmission.

That's optimistic! :-)

Hi, did you ever get your boards replaced by Rotel so you are now at 2.2? I have a 1582 but I use passthrough. Thanks for any info. Craig
