Hi All,

A customer has this new Cox box. It's an Arris model AX013ANC, and on the front it says XG1-A. This is their new voice control system where you speak into the remote. Ugh.

Customer has a URC-880. I can't find any STB codes that will work with this thing.
Further, I tried learning codes from the factory remote...nothing. I don't think it's even IR.

I searched and some folks suggested it's Scientific Atlanta codes. I'll heave to go back and try.

Anyone seen this box yet? I'm in the San Diego area.

Thanks!
Ed

We just dealt with this last week with the newest iteration of the Contour system. In our area, even though the boxes do have the IR sensor, they have disabled it. We had to have Cox bring back the first gen Contour to use with Pro Control. Imagine there are executives pulling 7 figures that are making these decisions.

I saw this box for the first time about 4 weeks ago and didn't have any luck either.

The factory remote is RF, but the unit seems to have an IR window on the front.  Thinking that IR might be disabled as default, I looked around in the menu and didn't see any options for changing remote control from RF to IR.

And, in our area's software, there was nothing in the menu/operation to have discreet/base for power.

The new Cox contour system is a re branded version of Comcast/Xfinity's X1 system.

The boxes do respond to IR, even though the Cox people say they don't.

Then he should have filed a complaint with the FCC and sent a copy to Cox. They were doing it on purpose (seen Comcast do it a lot). And it IS illegal.

Not that anything would have gotten done about it, but he still should have filed a complaint.

Point a known good IR remote at your camera phone and see if pushing a button shows a white light at the front of the remote. Some phone cameras have a filter that keeps them from seeing IR. This will check that.

If it shows on your camera, you now have a quick way to check for IR output.

I've dealt on the job with engineers who just got their degrees and make decisions like this without telling the suits. It somehow makes sense to them and they are too unlearned to realize they're causing hell for a lot of people, or even to realize they have to consult with others before doing things like this. As MLK once said, nothing is more dangerous than conscientiously applied ignorance. (Or maybe he said stupidity.)
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The remote is paired with box (probably so you can talk to it).

You can un-pair it by holding down the setup key for a few seconds until the light turns green I think, then press 981 and it will put it back into IR.

Learn the codes into your remote and you are good to go. I just did this last week.

The only button that was tricky to learn was the Contour button but I'm sure you can figure it out.

Good Luck!

It seems like you have a limited window to work with the IR. After X amount of time, the remote automatically defaulted back to RF.

WRT the recommendation that a known working remote be aimed at the camera lens of a smart phone- that doesn't work with the iPhone 6 and I suspect it's the same for many newer phones. My iPhone 3 is still able to show the IR, so I kept it. If my Razor (POS) worked, I think it would work for this.

The screen side (selfie) camera on an Iphone 6 will show IR.
Main camera doesn't.

Recently switched to Cox, and now have the Contour 2 box. Does the IR jack in the back of the box work?

FiOptics in our area uses that same POS box. Try pressing and holding the Setup Button, until the red light turns green, then press 987. This will turn the remote back to IR.
