Yes, I do understand and I have used all of these projectors. I am saying the contrast and overall picture quality is better with the other two. Unless I am at the point where the pixel structure is noticeable I would rather have better contrast, black level, colors than higher resolution which is difficult to see the difference except on very large screens and close seating distances.

"except on very large screens and close seating distances"......

while I agree that black levels and color certainly are important, I think "close seating distance and very large screens" are part of the entire front projection culture. So pixel count is very important and will remain so. Especially when sitting 12-15' away from a 10' wide screen....or 10-11' away from an 8' wide screen.

And decidedly more important than viewing on a 60" flat panel from a typical distance those are experienced in
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

Totally agreed John....we have sold 3 of the Sony's and customers love them.
Jack Rainey - Full disclosure...reformed integrator, now mid-Atlantic manufacturers rep for: Integra, Paradigm, Anthem, Parasound, Atlona, LG TV's and Metra Home Theater...among others

I have installed several 365's and one 665 and would take any of them over jvc's faux k. I will say how ever that the 665 does not currently display HDR properly from a Samsung 4k bluray. Still poking away for possible solution.
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

the issue with your comment is that if the person is sitting far enough where it is difficult to see the difference , for example, between a white 4k pixel and a black 4k pixel then why bother with 4k in the first place.

what I mean is imagine a scene where there is one 4k white pixel surrounded by black pixels (like a small 1 pixel sized star in the night sky) with a 4k projector you will get a white speck on black with a fake 4k projector and 1080p projector you will just get black (the same thing).

Let's make it more complex with a black and white 4k checkerboard, if you sit far enough and all the pixels bleed into each other you will just see 50% grey. if you have a 1080p projector it should have a 50% grey image if it is correctly downscaled or scanned, with fake 4k you should get 50% grey.

I understand the differences just fine, my degree was in laser engineering. I'm not an idiot with technology. Plus our company does over 200 projector installations a year an I am the one that calibrates most of them. I am saying that from a pure picture quality point of view I would rather have the better picture qualities of the other projectors over the Sony's resolution advantage at anywhere remotely close to the same price point.

I agree with you.
For a 133" diagonal screen, you've got to sit closer than 8' to recognize the difference in 4k resolution.
I've installed both Sony and JVC (haven't done a side by side) but I have read numerous reviews comparing them side by side supporting your opinion.
My clients aren't looking at pixels or test patterns so it really is just a matter of putting up the best image possible for their budget and requirements.
I'm more excited for HDR and more UHD material than the actual 4k resolution anyway.

BobL...
+1
spot on!

I have not seen a Sony 4K and JVC 4K close enough to make a decision personally. But what Bob said is 100%, resolution is only part of the equation - a small part of the overall equation to picture quality. If everything else about the picture is crap, it doesn't matter how high of resolution it is = it's crap.
Not saying either one of those projectors are crap, in fact both are pretty good. But the people arguing the Sony looks better just because it is 4K vs. 1080p of the JVC... I have to wonder seriously about the other stuff you peddle to your customers.
