We have a customer that has setup a Gmail account to receive email notifications from his NVR. Even with the camera sensitivity set as low as possible and areas set he is still getting a lot of emails each day, mostly of the trees blowing in the wind and shadows causing the movement emails. He is finding that the account space if filling up quickly with emails and is wondering if there is a way to automatically remove emails after a specific amount of time.

Obviously the NVR will still have the footage in the event of something happening, he just doesn't have the time to manually log into his account every week and remove all the camera emails.

Does anyone know if what I am asking is possible? I have done some looking around in Gmail but can't find anything.

This needs to be set for video loss or malfunctions, not every time something is detected by the cameras. If they're so paranoid that they want to capture everything, they should just hire someone to watch the video, full time.

I don't have a Gmail account any more. So I can't really test this.

Will this help?

This guy is running his small plumbing business out of his shop (where the cameras are located). His shop is outside of the city and isn't visible from the road. He uses the email notification to quickly see if its a delivery truck coming in or a vehicle he should be concerned about.

Add a dakota alert or similar and wire it into a contact input on the DVR. That way the mag sensor will trigger the DVR to send the email and record the clip but not be triggered by wind, leaves, etc.

Thanks KOT,

This looks like a quick way to remove any and all emails using filters. Looking at this you can't set a delay so that emails older than 2 days get removed but anything newer is still available.

The way the property is designed with the driveway and shop this option won't work.

Does your NVR allow you to create multiple motion detection "windows" within the image area? If so, can you just "mask" out the trees and other areas where you will get lots of false alarms?

Yes I have done this but it still doesn't stop the shadows and leaves from triggering the camera, even with the sensitivity set to the lowest level.

Does the NVR have other detection options rather than motion like face detect or crossing a virtual line?

Since he's more concerned with vehicles, why not install a loop sensor and trigger e-mail notification that way?

Which cameras and NVR?

If he's like me, vehicle is not the primary concern; crackheads stealing stuff from the vehicle is.

If he gets so many emails that his gmail is overflowing, does he really look at all of them in the first place.

While motion detection does not work well outside, unless you're using the crappiest NVR, things like leafs and shadows should not trigger motion alerts.

Now, leaves blowing into the camera CCD, blocking FOV, or sand/snow blowing at night making infrared light up like a blizzard, that's a different story.

I tried to use my front door camera's motion detection to trigger lights (at night) and music at portico. After that failure, I've installed outdoor rated PIR (3-4 years ago), and except for very hot days, where body temperature is below ambient one, I have not had any issues or false alarms.
