ok this is sorta off topic. Anyone know of any good rescources for grants from the private sector or public sector for new constrution and green building?

the google machine give lots of sketchy info, and sifting thru to find the real deals is not so easy.

looks like vanessa and I are considering building a new house in florida, it will be ICF, and be energy efficient up the wazzu and have solar power and shit...

so if there is a hand out to build , why not take it =)... you know somebody else will, may as well be me.

i already know of the 30% tax credit from florida for solar.
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Check with the Department of Energy- they're the ones who offer the grants, AFAIK.

Why not use Kickstarter? :D

I almost used Presidential Homes and/or LendVest, but that was 15 years ago.
One of my client's used another program for HomeOwner/builder -- can't remember the name.

Then there are always more typical construction loans, although in my state, they won't lend money unless you have a GB98 license with references.

Wired a few homes built as EnergyStar rated and I know they earned credits and incentives. Looking at their website a lot of good info there.

Gotta say it though, when those houses were being trimmed before the HVAC systems were running, such an odd feeling to be in a house that was basically airtight. Oddly uncomfortable. Had to open every window and door.

Mac...you'll need to start another campaign to accrue insurance and PP tax money. Otherwise, how do you plan to keep it, if you get it?

+1

I've been in a few and they are very very uncomfortable, like almost creepy. Hard to describe!

Shouldn't be totally air-tight. 'Sick house syndrome', off-gassing from materials and cooking cause a lot of problems. I assume these have some kind of air-to-air exchanger, right? Total seal makes opening doors a challenge, too. If the interior pressure is lower than outside, it's harder and if the pressure is lower inside, the doors want to blow open.

If you want creepy, go into an anechoic chamber.
