My Harris (Fluke) broke and I need to replace it with something. We normally use Leviton CAT5e and CAT6 jacks. I have looked at the DataShark unit HD sells. I have looked at the one Snap sells. I could just buy the part to fix mine. There are surely a few more options out there.

What do you use and why would you recommend it....or not, if that is the case?

I had a nice punch down tool for 10 years. I have no idea who made it. I lost it and bought one from Home Depot. Ideal, red and blue. It works okay but the blade constantly slides out of the back. I have had this one for 7 or 8 years.

A couple of years ago i bought a second set of tools. I ordered a cheapo $20 punch down tool from Amazon...it sucks. Point of my story is that if you like your Fluke you should buy the part you need. Trying to go cheap will get you a piece of junk that you hate...imagine going expensive and getting a piece of junk!

If you need it mainly for jacks, consider the Fluke JackRapid tool instead of a punch tool.  Makes speedy work for jacks.  They make different, replaceable blade heads for different brands of jacks.  I have two complete units, and a few heads that I swap out depending on the jack being used.

I have the Jack Rapid...it is the original before Fluke bought it from Harris...or bought Harris...who knows. I guess I better just fix it. I do not do a ton of jacks these days anyhow. But when I do, it sure beats doing it the old way. :)

Rapid jack is awesome - even better then Snap's.

Unless you do 1 jack a month, it's crazy to prefer manual punchdown (be it in the palm, against a rack or wall) compared to rapid jack.

It's a pain in the ass even when using this 'palm saver'

The Fluke model has specific cartridges for a few different manufactures.
