First thing I would do is contact Progressive and ask for their proof.

If they cannot provide proof via an official police report, they have nothing.

If they do have a police report it should contain a full description of the vehicle, and that may well get you out of this.

I did. They have nothing but a person that took tag number and gave it to the car owner. No police report. They have nothing but are able to screw you over. Amazing

After you win at small claims court you should track down the car they say you hit and smash it up with a hammer.

Question, does this fall under insurance fraud? Should authorities be involved?

Your own insurance carrier has the "duty to defend". I would call them, explain the matter, and assist in getting records of proof. Progressive is one of the more scummy operations, and its likely your carrier will invest in this case as to avoid setting any precedent.

It's possible that the person recording the license plate transposed digits.

Depending on the alleged damage to the other vehicle, there should have been complementary damage to your vehicle. If you can have your vehicle inspected and certified that there was no such damage, their case collapses.

I would think that your insurance company would have experience in this sort of drama.

I hope your insurance carrier is picking up the tab because it is their responsibility.

I have filed a complaint with the insurance commisioner. Filed with with my carrier which has never heard of such a thing. But there is still a deductible and credit damage to contend with even if they paid. I do not want anyone to pay progressive. Also spoke with a local LEO. It is Florida. There does not have to be a police report but never heard of this before. Very shady on progessive's part. Meeting with Attorney is friday.

If you don't mind me asking, how much is this "claim" Progressive is asking for?
