Off the back of the dying 3D displays....here comes 4K broadcasting. [Link: theverge.com]

I love this event and cannot wait to see it on our Sony 4K projector!

I'm curious as to what bandwidth is required for broadcast channels and what the likelyhood of more programs/channels coming out with content. I'm sure with the bandwidth comes major compression....

This can probably be found by searching this forum for Brent McCall posts with "4K" in them, or maybe Brent will see this and give us a concise (or terse*) summary of needed bandwidth.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yes, it depends if you're watching it in DD or SAP.

I wonder if they are going to be using Live Broadcasting over LTE? Could be since AT&T and DirecTV are in bed together now.

CI's with 4k (and direct) in their showrooms should start local ads on the golf channel now for demo's during the tournament!

Dude, thems fighting words!

I don't think there is one sporting event every year that I want to watch more than the Masters. It might help that I put money down on it every year but.....

Every thing from that obligatory background music, the par 3 contest with everyones kids running around, Jim Nantz's voice. I think I'm feeling a little verklempt:

Someone could also use 'curt', but that might be confusing to some people.

There are a few 4k channels on c-band here in North America, still waiting on the soon to come receivers. I was messing around with a satellite pci card but didn't get much, one of my customers has a card from Germany, he has some channels working right now.

Much more to come. I think they have tested some 8k channels as well, maybe some virtual reality tours coming? We will see.

Sorry guys, I missed this.

Actually I will have to point the broadcast needs back to the "RF God".
Take it away Fred.

Now that I have passed the buck (I really do not know the answer), I am very excited about this and am now starting to look at updating my gear.

The 4K channel was released here in Canada back in January with the Leafs, Habs game being the the first broadcast. Only problem is that this channel is only available for the people in the downtown core of Toronto who have Rogers cable.

If you don't live within the 10 or 20km (I don't remember) radius of the ACC or Rogers head office (again don't remember) then you are SOL of accessing the station.
You can't fix stupid
