I have a customer with a DVD burner on his computer that he's putting home movies onto DVD+RW's, He also has a pretty nice HD-setup. What is a nice Progressive scan player that will play the +RW format. (the player that he has now won't read them.)

I think Fry's had the Pioneer Progressive scan dvd player on sale for $180. a short while ago. Check their site and then after finding the model number check with pioneer for +RW compatability.

I'd tell them to wait a month and then get a Philips DVDR985. I'd go here and get pricing info: [Link: shopper.cnet.com]

This will complete their link between their computer and their video system. The reason for waiting is Philips is fixing a Progressive Scan Output Problem in the units (the entire picture area is raised about 12 pixels when using progressive scan on certain TV's)

Read the review at CNET: [Link: electronics.cnet.com]

But once that is fixed which will be VERY soon all they'll need to do is plug a 1394/firewire cable between their PC or Digital Camcorder and the Philips DVD recorder to transfer data, or use the unit as a VCR replacement. It even does VCR Plus. They'll then be able to make backups of recordings (for friends or family to see) of any shows they record off TV/SAT/CABLE on their Philips DVD+RW Recorder with their PC's DVD+RW Drive. Just a suggestion.
Good Luck!
Terrence

I just sold a Philips DVD985 and was able to play with it for a week before getting it to the customer. Discs made on it will work with the Pioneer DV444 progressive, but not with the DV-F727 301 disc changer the customer had. It also did not work with his Panasonic 27" TV/DVD/VCR.

I went to Best Buy with a disc I had made on it and tried it on 25 DVD players there. It did not work only on the Samsung DVDM301, DVDN501 and the Panasonic DVDCV52 and DVDRV32. It worked fine on the Panasonic progressive model DVDRP56 and all the other players they had.

It seemed that it worked on all the newer models.
