Customer has been re-setting his Genie DVR. Gets no picture, no menu, no messages. However, his two DTV clients work fine, which is an indication the DVR is fine of course. he called DTV. After explaining to DTV he had an HDMI matrix switch in the mix, DTV advised him that there has been a new, higher security firmware update and what is likely happening is when he switches the matrix, the DVR "assumes" he is unplugging the HDMI cable and thats interpreted as someone trying to copy programming. New security measures has been put in the firmware to just stop the picture and have no output. Ok, that at least sounds like a reasonable explanation. Not sure if accurate though or not because no other DTV customer of ours with HDMI matrx is having any issues at all, including me.

Anyone seeing any type of issues? Looking like its related to HDCP. Possibly EDID?

Are you using all outputs on matrix? If not, use an empty zone as a dummy to keep the genie "active". We did that with a snap matrix that was giving us fits with genie clients and it worked.

Yes, all 8 outputs are being used. However, one rarely, so I could keep that on Genie all the time?

I had a knowledgeable DTV Dealer/Installer tell me about this problem on Thursday. In the case he mentioned, it was a matrix by Leaf.

I was working on a system with a DM 32 x 32 yesterday, no issues with that route.

Customer was also told by DirecTV tech support that if he keeps resetting his DVR, the firmware is designed to erase everything and lock him out! They wouldnt say how many times before this catastrophe would happen.

Just took a deep breath when I saw this.

I have 6-7 Crestron DM systems with Directv boxes on them.

The thought of my clients with DM systems+ non functioning Directv receivers + cannot be fixed + 2 year Directv contract with me in the middle about gave me a heart attack.

It would not surprise me if sooner or later one of the service providers does something that renders any/all methods of HDMI distribution not usable. Distributed HDMI probably represents .0001% of their customer base, they give zero you know whats about us.

We have several dozen DM's out there, my phone would be going off the hook at the moment.

Yah, that would really suck. Local boxes with audio back to the rack is the future for most of you lol!

No issues with Gene on a JAP system, yet.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'll have to look at my HDMI EDID spoofing since I never had to use it.
Isn't there a way to have any/many decent HDMI matrix switches spoof EDID so that HDMI source (Gene in our case) think that it's always connected to a single TV?

I thought that was the 'correct' way to do it for devices (seem to recall cable boxes in particular) that had limited (around 2) keys.
