The reason for the lag is the Tivo has to send the channel command to the SA box via IR as you probably know. Even when you press channel up the Tivo will send the next channel to the SA box as a numeric sequence (instead of a channel up shot) to make sure it knows what channel is displayed on the screen.

You can set the code to the fastest setting (0018?) in the Tivo setup and it might speed things up.

You might want to suggest another box to your customers so TIvo can be strictly a recording device. The other box might be an HD receiver that doesn't work well with Tivo anyhow.

At my house I have Tivo running basic cable into it's tuner. There is no lag and we only record network tv anyhow. Works like a charm.

Hope this helps.

You're right about the enter button... TiVo needs to fix this. If you tell the TiVo to press the enter button, what actually happens is the number comes up on screen like it should, and then gets erased by whatever enter code they are sending, instead of 'entered'.

Could it be that another code set will work and send the correct ENTER?

Try calling TiVo about this. Early on, they had some codes at the shop that had not made it into the book.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The SA digital boxes in our area were recently changed to a four digit combination. Maybe this is why the channels take a little longer than before.

I used to check no when asked in the setup for the enter button. now I suppose you would check YES.

I have tried all the code sets on the list with 'enter' set to on and off... the only set that works with the Cablevision 4200 only works with enter set to off - slow, but works reliably.

Never thought to try calling for the secret handshake, but I will the next one I deliver...
